Very nice dark green shrimp females.

Another female with different shade of green.

As one can clearly see, this species has no stripe down its back.

And yet another shade of green.

A male dark green shrimp.

Juveniles of the dark green shrimp can be red.

The dark green shrimp is a another beautiful green dwarf shrimp from India. In contrast to the the green shrimp, the dark green shrimp never has a stripe down its back and usually has a much darker green color, although the green can vary in both shade and intensity. Also, its body is not as slender as that of the green shrimp. It is very prolific and its young grow up much faster than that of the green shrimp. The young of the dark green shrimp can be red or green and sometimes even shades of red and green (on one animal), whereas the young of the green shrimp are always green. The adults stay green all the time.

This shrimp is brand new to the hobby (as of February 2007) and is an exciting addition indeed. It is highly likely that its natural distribution is very limited, so every effort should be made to establish further captive breeding colonies.

There is a chance that this species may cross with the green shrimp, although no crossing experiments have been conducted yet. To be on the safe side, and avoid hybrids, this species should not be kept with the green shrimp.
