Woo I have RCS babies again. Must have happened last night. I see at least a dozen of them. It's silly I haven't been able to raise these in a dedicated tank but in my fish tank they breed like crazy. I have done 3 20% water changes and 2 serious gravel vacs since I last fed (Wednesday). I now see l...

Ok, thanks everyone. I had been feeding such a small piece and leaving it in there that I thought it was too small to pollute the water so much to impact the shrimp. Now I know that isn't the case. I will do another 20% water change tonight since my one RCS should be letting her babies go any day now.

OK one more question... is there any indication that they are hungry? Like all of them being out digging at the substrate or anything?

I don't want to starve them but I don't want to feed if I don't have to. If I drop some food in should they immediately swarm to it?

I am guessing they are getting all their food from the plants or algae. I will try and find some kind of balance but when they dont care whether the food is in there or not it just doesn't seem like I should feed at all.

I guess I'll stop feeding then. I should have a new batch of babies any day and see how it works out.

I have an Eheim 2213 running about half power since its a bit much for the tank. The prefilter is a Hydor III sponge, it looks too fine to let the babies through. I guess i could take the filter apart and see if I find any but they would probably be too small again. They were all over the place then...

So I know I had a bunch of CRS and RCS babies that lived at least 3-4 days but then they just pretty much disappeared. Two CRS are at least 2 weeks pregnant again. Ho can I troubleshoot this? My water params: 75F pH 7.0 KH 2 GH 3 Ammonia/nitrite/nitrate: 0/0/<5 TDS 125 There are a couple oak leaves ...

I only feed 1/4 of a small algae wafer every 3 days and sometimes they finish it, sometimes not. Since there are like 50 babies in there I don't want them to starve!

If I leave part of an algae wafer in for a day, it gets really fuzzy, and they don't touch it. I have left it for a couple days and it never gets eaten. I only have 11 shrimp in there so its hard to judge feeding but I'm getting the hang of it!

I have lots of baby CRS now! I could see them the day they hatched, they are much easier to see than RCS are. I would guess 30 from one female and 10 from another. I have one more pregnant one that will give birth any day now that is loaded with eggs too. Total time was 32 or 33 days, my water has b...

I thought they might eat some, but they actively hunted for them once they got a taste. They were in there to get rid of a massive snail party, which they eventually did. Two months without worrying about it and one day no more shrimp and lots of fat loaches.

Yep, when I set up the tank initially I pulled one male and female from my community tank. The rest of the population was destroyed by my Yoyo loaches once they decided that shrimp were tasty.

Cherry shrimp plus babies

My lone female cherry shrimp gave birth on Jan 25th. So these babies are 3 1/2 days old. I don't have a good camera or macro lens so these aren't very good but I thought they were neat. I named this one "Louis" http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r121/argblarg/fish009-1.jpg Each of the foll...

During the day today my berried RCS ?released? the babies, I see two super tiny live ones on my sponge filter so far. So total time was 23 days. The two CRS that berried up the same day still have their eggs, they look ready too but who knows.
