Looks good, Pigheadd! I wonder about the color of your tank (the one you entered in the contest). What lighting is it? It looks almost a little too greenish. Is it 6700K? I would suggest maybe adding some GE9325K bulbs or even 10K to make the color a little brighter. But, of course, that's only my o...

See! And you didn't even need patience at all! Congratulations! I've noticed that it takes approximately 3 weeks for the babies to 'hatch,' maybe four. They 'hatch' very small (you saw some of my tiniest ones), approx 1 mm. The crystal reds start out with color right away -- they have little stripes...

It is good that you are getting a kh kit -- if the water is too low in kh, the shrimp may not be getting enough calcium as discussed in another thread. I agree first monitor Ammonia and NitrItes because shrimp can't tolerate either. What are you feeding them, by the way? You may want to microwave a ...

Many metals can be toxic to fish and I would not add any to your tank. If you want to hold down riccia - use cotton thread. Also if you use water from your hot water tap -- the pipes can have copper in them. At least that's what I've heard. Not quite sure why hot would have copper and cold would not.

I would suggest at least do it yourself CO2 over Flourish Excel. When you do use Excel, be careful not to overdose. I would stay on the lower estimate in dosage. I've lost a Chinese Algae Eater to an overdose of Excel, and it is hard to tell what is the correct amount. I've discussed this with other...

I am not the norm when it comes to planted tanks and ferts -- but to me, it isn't worth the chance. Plants will 'detoxify' or use up small amounts of copper, so the shrimp wouldn't be affected. If it starts to build up, well that's another matter. In my shrimp tank, my shrimp come first. The plants ...

My shrimp tank is 29 gallons :) http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid120/p7664334c41bfbd6d517a601a21fa235d/f864d6bb.jpg This is the left side of the tank with my Downoi and Tonina plants (and some others). You can see the Malaysian Trumpets all around and a few shrimp hanging out). I'm a horribl...
