Re: Olive Nerites at full-seawater or fresh water?
The species I have lay lots of eggs in salt but non in brackish..so far. I haven't set them in fresh yet. The eggs hatch in full salt. The larvae just don't make it. I have tried removing filtration media hoping to get some to settle and develop but to no avail. Pretty snails. Haven't broken the cod...

Re: Gammarus
Finally got the bugs worked out of my bugs. ha ha ha, no? ok, I will keep my day job. The WalMart water works fine, three label colors all work. I also use water from older daphnia cultures that I am feeding off. I am using the leeched leaves, java moss for hiding, limestone gravel for "rocky b...

Re: Gammarus
It's an older publication. Early 20th century. Lots of details though. Would you be willing to sacrifice some of your pest azteca by sending them my way? I'll pay shipping of course and will compensate you for them. I have been soaking leaves outside in tubs and these are added one at a time. The ar...

Re: Gammarus Info source
I found a source of info on raising them. "On the Rearing and Breeding of Gammarus in Laboratory Conditions" by E.W. Sexton Interesting point was that G. pulex a freshwater species, and G. chevreuxi a brackish species, and G. Locusta a marine species were all conditioned to live and breed ...

Re: Gammarus
The one Gammarus (pulex?) culture that was made from the Walmart (green label) Spring Water is still going and I have my first babies. The plant I have is Willow Moss, not java moss. I have started to move just a few to the couple Walmart water jars that are now green water. I have only used the Wal...

I added some sand for substrate. I'll keep working on it till I get it to where they like it. I appreciat...

No I did not cycle
Sorry, didn't answer your question.
I just pulled water out of the other cultures and dig the bag float thing like you would a fish. The 4th culture was the Drinking Water from Walmart by the gallon.

Walmart Spring Water NOT reverse osmosis--my error
Looked at the label again last night. Mechanical filtration, Ozonation, UV sterilization. NO reverse osmosis. My tap water was originally run through an innexpensive "water filter" that attached to the faucet. Then treated with Stress Coat dechlorinator/dechloraminator. Turned into green w...

Water quality
The water was the green label cheap water from WalMart by the gallon .64 cents It says on the label that it is R/O and UV treated. The blue label had the exact same treatment process listed but was called spring water. The green bottle was called drinking water. Some have still died off. Some are st...

You can't kill them, I can't raise them
 What's a shrimper to do? I have ordered Gammarus shrimp three times. Once they came in late and most were dead, by next moring all were dead. I figured, try again with someone closer. I ordered from within my state. They arrived in excellent condition and had lots of java moss to hide in. I s...
