Re: Young Cardinal Shrimp
I use Ash, Peach, and Indian Almond in my tanks. I would use Oak, but here in AZ it is hard to come by. Nice pics! Why do you use those species of trees? I have Ash and Peach, but never heard of Indian Almond. When they decompose do they provide more microbial "critters", or is it just wh...

Re: New to cherry shrimp i have a few questions
Hello xchairity_casex, yes you can use clean sand, but it's a pain to keep clean without a power filter. Power filters aren't very good for cherries. You'll know when you have a pregnant female when you see small round sand colored eggs being carried under her tail. She will carry them in her swimer...

Re: Red cherries turning blue
I have learned in the past couple of years that water chemistry has a lot to do with coloring up fish. I don't know what mineral/element in the water would cause them to turn blue though. I also don't know if inverts would be affected the same way as fish. It also may be evolution in progress. I onc...

Celebes Jungle Crabs
Today I received my Celebes Jungle crabs. They're also called Vampire crabs. They don't go through any larval stage as far as my research has turned up and they don't seem to need salt or brackish. They belong to the Geosesame speices. I've set up a tank for them that is 50% land (gravel)/water. The...

Re: Orconectes Lancifer The shrimp crayfish
If you collected these for your own home aquaria couldn't you just get a fishing license? As a biologist, it is a bit harder for me because I need to have a permit to collect specimens for science and must give the state a very detailed annual report.

Re: Could we be importing something more from Sulawesi
If something erupts out of it's stomach , whatever you do don't shoot it! It's blood is all acid and will melt through many layers of steel. Just kidding. Maybe it's some sort of tumor. I hope it's not a parasite of some type, I just got some crabs from Sulawesi and I hate to think they may have the...

Re: Weitzmani Fry in Shrimp tank?
I have added Synodontis Petracola fry to one of my Red cherry shrimp tanks and expected the fish fry to eat smaller shrimp as supplemental feeding. So far my Petricola's are doing just fine, and the cherries are outpopulating the original colony!

Well today I found a food produced by a big name manufacturer and they called it Cyclopeeze and I bought it. It doesn't look like a freeze dried food, how do I know if it's the same thing?

Re: Tiny thread like worms & swimming specks
The swimming white specks sound like paramecium, fish fry love 'em, I'm not sure if shrimp larva eat them or not.
