I've fed my shrimps frozen ones before and they seem to like it, not as much as the bloodworms though.

I will next time I visit the place and also get a sample of the substrate in the spring. The water there is very cold(about 5 degrees celcius) and there isn't any food for them beside the algae on the rocks.

That is very interesting and I wonder if they would regain their color if you were to use water from the spring in your tanks.
