my shrimp don't hide at all from the fish. in some cases, as with the amanos, they are bigger than the fish. the fish tend to leave them alone.

2nd pic definitely looks like a bumblebee shrimp (black stripe starting at head rather than white, which would be a bee shrimp). not sure about the first one, but i have few in my tank as well. lfs dubbed "rainbow shrimp." looks similar to ninja shrimp on shrimp varieties page tho. anyone ...

i'd make sure your tank is FULLY CYCLED. shrimp (and fish) of any variety are sensitive to ammonia. they will die. test for ammonia ASAP. plus, given the number of shrimp you have, you may not have the established biofilter to support them, which may result in deaths. i hope you at least have plants...

congrats! i'd move the mother shrimp to a tank all her own. put in a sponge filter (aeration and biofilter all in one). add in some aquatic plants if u have them or leave it a bare bottom tank. set it up as soon as you can, allowing time to cycle the tank so there's no ammonia or other harmful compo...

golden clams and shrimp

seeing "golden clams" popping up on aquabid lately and considering putting in a bid. just wondering if anyone out there has had experience with them, and know if they would eat shrimp if they had the chance... i know they're filter feeders, but are they opportunistic feeders as well. a shr...

bummer! no baby shrimp this round.

i've lost the entire hatch of amano/yamato shrimp... :x almost... there are still three larvae hanging on, but i don't think they will make it. i managed to keep them alive for a little while, but they weren't eating (feeding them baker's yeast). water was at full ocean salinity. i have a small desk...

i have a few tigers. they seem to breed easily in my tank. i don't do anything special to the water. i have one female with eggs right now. don't know exactly when they will hatch, but they have them.

There is one thing though, since it is LIVE sand/rock I would be concerned about something eating the baby shrimp. :? TKD agreed. i tho't about that exact same scenario after i posted the question. i've never kept a salt tank, but i often read about hitchhikers in live rock/sand. thanx for ...

btw, would live sand/rock be a good source of food for the fry? seems like it might be if they are swept down to the ocean after birth. anyone know?

thanx.

ok, moved mother back into fw hatchout tank, as opposed to one that was had a little bit of salt in it... the majority of the remaining eggs hatched within hours. so i guess the lesson to take from this is that mom won't allow her eggs to hatch unless it's in fw. very interesting. i will be moving t...

ok... it looks like i'm going to ask and answer my own questions.... :D i have several questions that the article about breeding amanos doesn't quite answer: the situation is that a little over a hundred (best guess) of the eggs have hatched. i'm keeping the mother shrimp in the same tank as the hat...

becky,

i've done nothing special except keep the water clean and feed my shrimp on occasion. i'm attempting to raise a brood of amano hatchlings as we speak. i can't say with any certainty whether i will succeed or fail, but i'll keep you posted.
