My shrimps used to hang upside down under a piece of driftwood. I seldom saw them and I thought they were dead. I didn't know they were hiding there until one day I removed it from the tank. Now I don't use that piece of wood and they're more visible now. There are some other more-visible hiding pla...

I didn't know their being transparent indicates their health. I thought all shrimps were transparent. Nor did I know their intestines had to be full. Last time I observed a tiger when it was pooping. A black line of poo was coming out from somewhere under its tail and the black intestine became shor...

Tiger & Tetra can be friends

My medium to big tigers live in the big tank and small tigers in the breeding tank. I found something interesting when they dined tonight. I gave them a pellet of sinking food. Surprisingly, one of my tigers fought for the food with my cardinal tetra :D I thought shrimps were shy. About 10 cardinal ...

So am I, I'm not particularly keen on crystal red and it's too expensive. It cost US$12 to $17 each in Hong Kong. I don't understand why it cost so much. Perhaps it's difficult to breed it. I don't know.

And they poop a lot every time after they've eaten algae. Therefore, I have reason to believe that algae helps to clean their digestive system.

In fact, I've never tested the parameters because I feel the steps are like laboratory tests, which I think a bit too complicated. The water of my fish tank is always crystal clear. I just change about one fifth of water once a week, clean the filter once a month. New water is placed by the window s...

2000 Chinese characters is quite a big databank. Local Chinese people just use 3000 to 5000 words in average. Last time I just shared with my shrimp friends here photos attached to a Chinese website coz I was afraid they couldn't read Chinese words. In this case, next time I'll post here what I've g...

Additional information : Tigers in a tank are 2.5 to 6 times more expensive than those in a bag here in Hong Kong, but the death rate is much lower. Therefore, now I know I should not buy shrimps in a bag again. About two weeks ago I bought a bag of 10 and now there are only two survivors. Fortunate...

Clean the Java Moss

Days ago I bought four tiger shrimps (bigger ones) and sent them to the tank (10 gallons). I sent them there with a wish that they would clean the Java Moss. They're living with Cardinal Tetra and small Corys. They live happily. However, they've never approached the Java Moss, but spend all their ti...

Oh I see. I wondered if it was naked. It turns out that the new shell was ready. Yes, I think I'm very lucky coz the whole process took just about five seconds. It curled up so much that it was like a circle. The discarded shell included the head and the tentacles as well. It was at about 8:30 p.m. ...

Magical Molting

I was viewing my shrimps after dinner. I found one of them doing something strange. It curled up to a degree that it had never behaved like that. I thought it was feeling unwell. However, after just a few seconds it suddenly straightened its body and rushed to the water surface. A static shrimp body...

Conference

Half of my tiny shrimp tank is full of Java Moss and half of it has nothing (except gravels). A moment ago I put some fish food into the empty side. Then all the shrimps came to have dinner together. They looked as if they were having a conference. I guess they were discussing how to maintain their ...

Hi Mustafa,

I speak Mandarin too. Wow, you still remember so much Hanyu Pinyin after 6 to 7 years. (For most shrimp friends' reference, Hanyu Pinyin is a kind of Chinese phonetics).

xie = crab
xia = shrimp

That's just a typing error :)
