Hi GunmetalBlue, Thanks for your reply and especially thanks for the article! I've been reading some Crustaceana -journals, but sofar I haven't found too much information about M. lanchesteri, so this article really helped me to understand this species. When I looked at the reference list of this FA...

M. lanchesteri genders

Does anyone have clear photos of Macrobrachium lanchesteri (ghost/glass shrimp) males. I do know that some macros have differences in ...

This may be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Is Macrobrachium lanchesteri able to reproduce through parthenogenesis? I recently bought a M. lanchesteri female, that during the last waterchange molted and soon after took eggs under her tail. Now I'm wondering if her eggs will ever h...

Are there some specific factors that make molting impossible for shrimps? Lack of certain minerals or wrong water parameters? All the other shrimps seem to have no difficulties in molting. I do know that if the shrimps can't change their skin, they will die to lack of oxygen. So the reason that cau...

Heavy metals effect on shrimps

I have recently lost 5 red cherry shrimps and I must say it's been also financially quite a loss, because they cost 8 euros per shrimp. Losing 40 euros once in a while is not what a student can afford. :x Couple a years ago our local water company started to add combined chlorine instead of gaseous ...

Here's some information on combined chlorine (chloramine): http://www.ci.millbrae.ca.us/pdf/chloramineconversion.pdf To break the bond between chlorine-ion and amine-ion, to neutralize the effects of chrolamine, you can either use ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or sodiumtiosulfate (NaS2O3). I prefer asco...

With help of a german guy Chris Lukhaup I may have a identification for my shrimps. He suggests that it may be Caridina brachydactyla. They have also a pic of it on their great homepage: http://www.crusta10.de/index.php?sideid=news_de (Most of the text on the site is in german, but the news section ...

--You're not going to find reliable info on the internet. You would have to search scientific journals (such as crustaceana) which you can access through research libraries at Universities (if they let you in) or you subscribe to very expensive services that deliver you articles you are looking for...

It's definitely not Palaemon. As to the other shrimp...it's still anybody's guess. By the way...as much as I appreciated Aquajapan, it did have tons of mistakes...so even the species you listed above might just not be the species that were scientifically described as such. Mustafa I knew it wouldn'...

Anybody's guess is as good as mine. In other words, I have never seen this shrimp before. Any guess is better than no guesses at all  I went through some older discussions and came up to a site which is considered to be a carbon copy of legendary Aquajapan -site. There I could find some poten...
