Re: Normal?
My water looked exactly like that about a week or two after I transferred my shrimp from an ecosphere into my 1 gallon bowl. It cleared up after several days and the briney smell went away. Some sort of bacterial bloom I think it was said. It probably would've been good to let my 1 gallon bowl cycle...

Dark space needed for breeding?
Do people that have had berried/breeding shrimp have dark places for them to hide in their setups? There's nowhere in my bowl that the shrimp can get away from the light, and I wonder if that will demotivate them to breed. Or do people with no hidden crevices/nooks/etc. still see their shrimp berryi...

Re: my snail died
Is there anything I can do to help them along? My 1 gallon bowl is so small, and the first few days they were feeding so far up the sides they were almost out of the water (only a thin meniscus of water was keeping them wet). There's quite a bit of algae building up on the sides and on the dead cora...

Re: Snails, Mustafa wasn't kidding!
One of my former snails burrowed into my gravel right into the largest accumulation of shrimp waste. What a way to go.

Re: Is this algae or settled dust on the surface of my tank?
I have a white film that forms on the top of my bowl. The shrimp also seem to swim upside-down and feed off of it, and every now and again I'll scoop most of it out but it "grows" back after a few days. I assume it's some sort of protein film. It's viscous enough that I'm worried if I leav...

Re: my snail died
ZOMBIES!!!! I came back after this weekend and at least 2 of the snail that haven't moved in weeks, but that I nudged with a wooden stick, had moved around the bowl. There are still several that haven't moved in a month, but it does seem that they may have fervent feeding phases and then stay dorman...

Re: my snail died
Well, fairly certain they've all kicked the bucket. Or do they commonly go inactive for weeks at a time? All of the shells have been sitting in the same place for nearly two weeks (even the last one that was moving around) and I can't see any snail heads. I'm also wondering if my Chaeto is dying? Wh...

Re: my snail died
Wow, I think most if not all of my snails are dead. I just came back from the weekend and a half dozen of their shells are in the same place they were on Friday, I can't see most of the others, and only one has its footpad stuck to the side of the bowl. All of the other shells I see are retracted, I...

Re: my snail died
I think one of mine may have croaked too. It burrowed itself down into the rocks right up against the side of the bowl (in a whole pile of shrimp waste) and hasn't emerged from its shell in days. I've noticed they retract into their shells for periods of time, but I've never seen one do it for this ...

Re: Compatible tankmates/plants
Wow, mini-crabs would be amazing!! I'd snap those up in a second when they become available. With crabs in the environment though, I imagine feeding becomes mandatory so they're not tempted?

Re: YELLOW Supershrimp!!!
Very cool! The white Opae in the other thread is even more incredible looking. Seems to be a proper albino considering the pink eyes. Very interesting to hear that the paler shrimp have had green eggs well. I think one of the shrimp in the last batch you sent me may have eggs, as there appear to be ...

Re: Berried Shrimp Video plus question re eggs
Green eggs?! Wow. How about a picture. Haha, not quite Dr. Seuss, but they look greenish to me. I'll try to take a picture tomorrow, I think it's just the one. The mass is definitely above the intestinal tract though and within the carapace. I'm hoping they're eggs, but I'm worried if it's one of t...

Re: Berried Shrimp Video plus question re eggs
The females carry the eggs just inside the top of their abdomen before berrying, correct? I can't tell if it's one of the new batch I just put in or if it's one of the earlier group of 18 (I'm guessing it's one of the new ones) but it looks like one of the shrimp has a cluster of 5 or 6 greenish loo...
