Re: How to seed tank with algae?

That looks like the perfect environment to also sustain a couple of dwarf blue legged hermits!

Re: My Opae Ula are dying for an unknown reason

I agree with the above posters. It looks like a bit of a desert/wasteland unfortunately. No craggy rocky surfaces for algae or bacteria to grow, no areas for the shrimp to hide and de-stress from excessive stimulation, and no obvious pH buffers (coral, calcium carbonate rocks, etc.). Without enough ...

Re: suitable tankmtes for the Opae Ula?

I was able to keep a dwarf blue leg hermit crab with my shrimp for several years, but I fear I never quite fed him enough because he was probably supposed to be fed every other day or so and I would feed weekly or biweekly to not over feed the shrimp. When I did drop in a pellet he would go nuts for...

Re: How to seed tank with algae?

I’d be willing to buy some of that tank water off your buddy too. I’ve bought shrimp, snails, and macroalgae off Mustafa many times and always dumped in the water but I’ve never had carpet moss grow in my tank and I’ve always been bummed about it.

Spinning larvae?

Has anybody had a larvae spin in circles constantly and it not be a problem? I have about a dozen in my tank now, still in their floating vertical phase, and one is just constantly spinning himself counterclockwise for at least the past few hours. He’s pale too, not red. I’m worried he’s in distress...

Re: BABIES!!!

It’s that time of the year in my tank too. Just took this pic, and there’s about 7 new larval stage “hanging out” and at least 4 berried.

Re: No visible algae?

I have never had any micro algae in my tank (5+ years now I think, with them being in a gallon bowl for 4 years). I’ve wanted a layer of verdant green to grow but it has never happened. Besides the shrimp, snails, and macroalgae it looks like a wasteland. I’ve purchased Mustafa’s macro algae several...

Is my chaeto completely dead?

Over the course of the last two years, the Chaeto in my 5-gallon tank looks to have completely died off. It started out when I got it from Petshrimp as deep green and “robust” in density and height. Now it’s wilted, super pale, much of it clearly breaking down on the substrate. The shrimp move throu...

Re: Spider LIVING in my tank???

I’m pretty sure it was a tick, probably a deer tick based on other pictures I’ve seen. Those are common for where I live.

Spider LIVING in my tank???

So every now and again I need to fish a dead ant out of my tank. Today I saw the wierdest thing. It looked like a spider clinging to the inside of the tank, underwater. Not floating dead. I thought maybe it was just stuck there, but I sucked it into a pipette and the thing is definitely alive, and s...

Re: Why are supershrimp commonly put in ecospheres?

https://www.petshrimp.com/supershrimp-s ... formation/

Essentially because a species that’s hardy enough to live 20+ years in the wild can survive 2-5 years slowly starving in a ball.

Re: Is my shrimp finally saddled?

Also forgot to mention, when I see berried shrimp I avoid feeding at all. I think I’ve found that the hustle and bustle of them fighting over the food pellet causes berried shrimp to be more likely to drop.

Re: Is my shrimp finally saddled?

Ya, my average was a year after I moved them into my 5 gallon tank. I had a dwarf hermit I stopped feeding regularly (every 3-4 days) and went to feeding every 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, the hermit died but the shrimp started breeding like crazy. A few months later I had my big die off, most likely t...

Re: Is my shrimp finally saddled?

I believe they are, mostly that area where it starts out onto the tail and a bit under the carapace. I’ve had mine stay saddled for a very long time until they decide the time is right to start breeding. Fingers crossed yours do soon.
