Re: First Berried Shrimp!

Congrats, Phil!

I knew you could do it!

These guys are no way near as delicate as other shrimp, that's for sure!

Soon you'll find another berried female, then soon after that a never ending supply of larvae!

Re: New hermits

I feed my opae ula daily... A very small amount of finely ground TetraColor flakes. Enough gets to the bottom of the tanks for the hermits. The opae ula in these tanks have lived happy and healthy lives for over 18 months. Breeding like crazy, too.

Re: Are there any, any animals that will mix with opae ula?

It's been ages since I dropped in. I still have a few hermits in a couple of my Opae Ula tanks. I feed these tanks DAILY, a very small portion of finely ground, nearly powdered TetraColor flaked fish food. The opae ula gather upside down under the waters surface, grab a morsel of food, then swim off...

Re: Okay... Gonna try an "accepted" set up.

BTW... Absolutely nothing is happening in my "accepted setup". I occasionally see a shrimp or two, the MTS are always out eating like they are in my other tanks. The chaeto grows well. It's my experience that my tanks that are fed, get water changes and have at least minimal water movement...

Re: Okay... Gonna try an "accepted" set up.

Promise not to tell, Jill? ;-)

Small daily feedings.

A small HOB filter that provides water movement.

Macro algae and live rock.

Occasional water changes.

Re: macro-algae dying

Hi Harry,

How's the lighting in your tank?

A bit of food is good for the shrimp and the macroalgae.

Re: Okay... Gonna try an "accepted" set up.

Someone gave birth in my original Bookshelf tank today. At least 15 larvae are doing the head down bop this evening...

Re: Green live stone/coral

As I've posted elsewhere, I have live rock in two of my Opae Ula tanks. After eight months it appears to have been a good thing. The shrimp have been breeding successfully and are constantly very active in these tanks.

Hi Mustafa,

I just checked. Specific gravity is currently 1.012 at about 72 degrees f.

Using an old fashioned bobbing hydrometer.
