Re: Opae Ula Experience
Finally I've spotted some berried females in my tank at work. Hard to tell how many, but I've seen around 2-3 simultaneously.

Re: red cherry shrimp
I think it depends on what kind of shrimp a river shrimp is. If you have pictures, or a scientific name, that might help people determine if they are safe to keep with red cherry shrimp.

Re: Adding Shrimp to my 10 gallon?
I think it's up to you how many you would like to put in. I would put in none because I wouldn't want the Betta to eat them. If you aren't concerned with that, then maybe start with a few, see how it goes, and add more? I feel like 10 gallons could support a whole lot of shrimp though. If there are ...

Cool. Does the snail stay in the water all the time?

Re: Better idea for the intake
I've seen people suggest using stockings as a pre-filter, as well as stainless steel pre-filters.

Re: Snails, Mustafa wasn't kidding!
I was contemplating ordering some snails, but I don't want my tanks overrun with them. I can see the poop between the cracks of the substrate and it kind of bothers me that it's there. If I just put in one...can it still multiply? :P Then if it's just one...how much shrimp poop could it really eat, ...

Re: Opae Ula Experience
If you check ebay for 'iPhone Macro Lens' there are relatively inexpensive ones available. I got the 3 in 1 version. It's just a challenge to get things in focus and to have them cooperate when you're trying to film them.

Re: Opae Ula Experience
I removed the Seiryu Stone and replaced it with coral. I'm not sure why I choose the largest pieces of coral that will fit in my tank :P More surface area? More hole things for them to crawl in maybe. Waiting for any sign of algae growth on the coral. I'm curious if the dark green algae I've seen on...

Where do they hang out? Near the surface or?
Are you doing anything special to feed them?

Re: New Tank Set Up - Questions
Let me know if you find any lava rock. I only saw a single hand sized black lava rock at Ewa Petco today. Petland (Kahala) has red lava rocks and other materials. Kalihi Pet Center has some stones and coral as well. Pets Plus had some stones as well but I didn't really get a good look. Petco Beretan...

Re: Opae Ula Experience
Hi Rob, It's tank #1 with Seiryu stones. I like the substrate as well, I tried UP Aqua Shrimp Sand because I thought the round shape would be nice, but it clouds the water a lot with it's very fine particles and was driving me crazy. I'm pretty happy with Eco Complete because I think it's inert, com...

Re: Okay... Gonna try an "accepted" set up.
Hi Eightoeight... In my other opae ula tanks I've made a "rock wall" from one end to the other, across the middle of the tanks. I'm thinking I prefer that over just piles on either end. I follow your tank(s) here and on another forum so I'm definitely looking forward to how your tanks tur...

Re: Okay... Gonna try an "accepted" set up.
Maybe consider using your substrate and larger tank size to your advantage and not use a flat layer of substrate. Create depth and variance in substrate height to create a dynamic look to your scape. Keep an open mind and I think you'll be surprised with the possibilities. I guess the purpose of the...

Re: Do Opae's have feeding times?
That's a good question. Though I don't have an answer, I've always been wondering if there was a correlation between time and their behavior. Sometimes I see them perched on things, or on the bottom and other times the majority of them are swimming around. If they do have a "schooling" nat...
