I have never seen a red cherry shrimp with white saddle. Do you have a photo?

If you read Japanese, you can find a lot of information about CRS in many .jp sites. Many articles talked about what problems they had observed and explained why and how they used diamond (black bee) shrimps to correct them. I, too, have not noticed any inbreeding problems with my cherry red shrimps...

In Taiwan, there are shrimps (the direct translation of the name is: black-shell-shrimp) which are sold in fish shop as "feeders". They have a lot of color variation from light gray - brown - to dark black – affected by the color of surrounding. If these guys were collecting these black-sh...

Crystal red shrimps were from the bee shrimps. Japanese have done an excellent job in the last years to selectively breed them and now there is solid white ones. My posting in another thread about the blue line: I had read a few months ago that Japanese had successfully bred a blue line and are work...

One thing I forgot to mention is: I had kept cherry red shrimps in tanks with white (bright white color) sand in the past. The females did not show much red color (just like the one in the photo -- very pale and transparent). But after they were moved to a tank with black gravel (as they got pregnan...

Interesting work. However it only says: if one selectively breeds pale shrimps, he/she may get cherry red shrimps with no much red color. Does it necessarily mean: "pale" cherry red shrimp is closer to a "wild' shrimp? Or can it (pale feature) just be a contamination with other close ...

I do not know. I am not sure how blue the shrimps are. Hope to see some photos of them (Crystal "Blue" shrimp). I did see a few photos in the past that black bee (diamond) shrimps show some sort of blue color and breeders in Japan have/had selectively breed these shrimps to produce the blu...

>> Where does the V-band come from ? >> Is this the pattern on the tail ? It is the pattern in the black (or red) band (in the middle of the body). V -- it looks like a 'V' Tiger tooth -- the white area in that band. "look like a tooth" -- don't know who invented this -- but it is interest...

I don't use any conditioner. I have a water holding tank with airstone and an external filter. Usually the water is in the tank for at least 2 days or more before I use it for the shrimp tank (my tape water is from Lake Michigan). I added a UV to a 30gal tank that holds Crystal Red shrimps. It clear...

I am not sure about the price in fish shop in Taiwan. But it is cheaper to buy from breeders. More importantly, most breeders allow you to go to their places and pick the shrimps. Some CRS lose their color (especially the white bands) when the light turns off. So if you can pick the shrimps yourself...

Not sure in other countries. But I know you can get CRS of that quality at US$5-US$10 (NT$150-NT$300) a piece from the local breeders in Taiwan. If you want to get one with some specific features, such as tiger-tooth, v, sun-circle, white body, etc., it is still quite expensive --- 10+ times more $$$.

I have exploded cherry red shrimps (RCS). So I do not bother to do that for them. I have a few crystal red shrimps (CRS). If the CRS female molts before all eggs hatch, I definitely will try to hatch the remaining eggs :-D I had read many people had succeeded with it: place eggs close to water fall ...

Crystal Red shrimps tend to become weaker after inbreeding a few generations. In Japan, breeders cross them back with black ones to strengthen the strain.

I had thought about Tofu in the past. I thought it would be a good calcium source. Then I found an article on internet. It talked about how Tofu is made today. The article said: only the Tofu made in traditional method contains a lot of calcium. Many brands of Tofu made today contain little or no ca...
