Re: HELP MY ROOMMATE KNOCKED OVER MY TANK AND MY SHRIMP ARE ARRIVING TODAY
All might not be lost. The water lost does not contain most of the beneficial bacteria that you have been nurturing while cycling the tank. They live on the substrate, decorations and sides of the tank. If those were still wet (and still are) you probably don't have much to worry about. Make a new b...

Re: so im raisng in regular seawater
I have had them in water salted to 1.020 SG. I got into Opae Ulas because I was researching keeping dwarf seahorses. They seemed like good companions for each other if they could survive well in the same water conditions. My readings indicated that super shrimp could live in full blown saltwater and...

Re: White small organisms found near water surface
Do you have any other critters in the tank besides the shrimp? They look like hermit crab larva. I have a few Blue Leg Hermits in my 6 gallon Fluval with my shrimp and at one point found larvae as you describe in my tank every two weeks or so. "Wiggled" around for two days or so and then w...

Re: Supershrimp suggestions
These shrimp will make ideal pets for you. They are easy undemanding pets. You might try a glass floral vase. One with a wider bottom and a tapered neck which flares out at the top. The tapered neck and the flared opening will give you an area of the container which you can grasp with one hand shoul...

Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab
I have 2 Fluval 6 Aquariums set up Sg 1.010 and the other 1.019Both have been breeding and both contain Blue Leg Hermits -- 3 in each tank. For a long time, the hermits in the 1.019 tank bred about every ten days. The larva floated about for a few days but after about 3 there were none to be seen. P...

If you remove water from the tank or if you remove solid objects (stone, ornaments etc.) from the tank for some reason, and you want to return the water level to what it was before the removal, then you must use water with the same salinity. If on the other hand, you are simply replacing water that ...

Re: Tank/rock help?
I don't know that much about holey rock but I don't think you would need much. The idea of a buffer is that it kicks in when the ph begins to shift. I have read here that some people use egg shells as their buffer and I doubt they would use a dozen. LOL At any rate, I am sure someone with more exper...

Re: Tank/rock help?
Welcome to the hobby. I bought some nice chunks of lava rock at Petco the other day. They had two types, black and reddish. Got the black because I use black sand which really makes the shrimp color pop! Another possible source for lava rock though not big pieces is Home Depot. Get the type used for...

Re: Freed Ecosphere shrimp - Dinoflagellates in tank already
Nice looking set up. Judging from the pictures and the fact that the aquarium has recently been set up, my guess it that the brown stuff are just diatoms. They usually show up first and in great numbers when a tank is fresh. Over time, they will subside and will probably be replaced by green algae. ...

Re: Feeding, filtering, water changes, etc.
I am new to the Supershrimp thing so I have been reading all of the posts and I apologize if I am reviving old post by commenting. Having said that, I would like to offer an observation. Opae are marvelous creatures capable of living in the barest of environments. The minimalist approach by Mustafa ...

Re: The lure of the wild shrimp...resist!!
Great discussion! One observation 21 individuals to 70K that is a lot of inbreeding! Wouldn't our little friends be better off genetically if we added to our tanks a few new individuals, from other individuals who have actually bred and raised shrimp from other sources?
