Re: Minimum number of shrimp per gallon?
I have a 1 gallon tank with 9 shrimp in it. I was thinking of getting more, especially with the half price going on right now. Since they are social creatures, how many would you recommend would be good to have in the tank? I was thinking a final number between 15 and 20 (for now). Also my algae clu...

Acclimating Snails
I've gotten Zebra Thorn Nerite snails to add to my Hawaiian red shrimp tank. The seller hosts them in freshwater so i have to acclimate them to my brackish tank. Right now I've just got them in the water they came in, in a new container. After about a day i added half a cup of my water to theirs. I ...

Re: Berried at last!
Well she had three when i left for vacation. When I returned there were two babies floating around the water. I'll take it. They're so cute! They just float head down and so desperately try to swim but get nowhere :3
How long do they stay like that?

Re: Algae Build Up... Other problems
I also have tons of algae buildup. While I have my shrimp in their transferring container, I was going to clean the main tank and all of the substrate and rocks. Would the best way to keep the walls from getting too crowded again be to buy the pack of snails Mustafa sells? If they are the best, shou...

Re: Berried at last!
I ended up moving them into a Tupperware. It was exactly the right size with the substrate, without there's about an inch of room at the top. When moving her, my pregnant shrimp dropped at least three of her eggs. They were riding on her belly and she just dropped them in her desperate attempts to f...

Re: Berried at last!
If i was to cover their current tank with cling wrap, do you think it would hold for a few hours? If it works i couldn't have to move them at all.

Berried at last!
I'm so excited! Today I spotted my first pregnant shrimp!! She's got at least 7 eggs that keep moving around in there, like little balls rolling past one another. How come they move so much anyways? Besides being super excited, i'm a little worried. I move back home from college in three weeks and w...

Re: Mixing Ecosphere and Tank
UPDATE! They're both doing GREAT! I didn't realize how tiny they were until I put them in and they were around half the size of my own shrimp. All of these shrimp are about the same age too. I Can't help thinking i got them in there in the nick of time. Since they're been in, the two new ones have b...

Re: Mixing Ecosphere and Tank
Well I just finished moving them. It went pretty well. I had a little trouble with the glue, and had to get inventive with the dumping, but once I got the shrimp into a Tupperware, it was smooth sailing. I've seen for sure one of them milling about my tank. She seemed to just be sitting at the botto...

Re: Mixing Ecosphere and Tank
Thanks so much! All of the shrimp in my tank do well with the swimming out method. Maybe they've just gotten used to it as I've had to travel them to transfer containers at the end of the school year/summer a few times. The tank is a full gallon with about a third of it full of the chaetomorpha boug...

Mixing Ecosphere and Tank
I already have a well established tank with 6 shrimp in it. My friend has recently given me her ecosphere with two shrimp in it. It used to have four and she doesn't want the other two to die, and she liked my tank, so she asked me to care for them. My plan was to give the shrimp a few days to accli...
