Re: MiniShrimps

As long as there are no animals that's fine :) I don't think there's any reason to add Prime; what's the reasoning there? I would wait until the tank can take some ammonia and turn it into nitrAtes in 24 hours, so from a reading of ammonia/nitrites/nitrates 1/0/0 to 0/0/something. Not just once it g...

Re: First Aquarium!

If there are any creatures still in that tank, I would do a water change or get them out. Nitrites SOAR quickly during a cycle. :) Congrats on your tank cycling!

Re: Transferring Ecosphere Survivor?

I got the plug out of the bottom a while back (and added a single half-inch strand of Mustafo's macroalgae, which has grown tremendously!). I'll browse YouTube anyway :)

I am just not sure I want the snails, haha. Nerites might be cool though...

Transferring Ecosphere Survivor?

I've got one lonely survivor in an Ecosphere and a 5 gallon tank at the right salinity (1.010) and with plenty of macroalgae all over. It's been running for a while, with no ammonia/nitrite/nitrates. My question is: should I move the survivor in on his own, or wait until I get some buddies for him? ...

Re: Popcorn of Death

Iodine can apparently help prevent bad molts:
iodine should be supplemented. A dosage of 1 drop per 10 gallons per week (1 drop every other week for 5 gallons) is beneficial for preventing bad molts, which are otherwise fatal.

Re: Popcorn of Death

So about Seachem Prime: I mixed in approximately the right amount for a 2.5 gallon tank (which considering that a capful treats 50 gallons was essentially nothing), and the ammonia level remained constant according to my test. Thoughts? The bottle says that twice the dose is safe, but without an ac...

Re: MiniShrimps

Unless you've done a water change, you can't have gone from .5ppm ammonia to 0's across the board. Try doing the tests again to see if it turns up with something. also, isn't that the goal and reason to cycle the tank? to get to zeros across the board? I mean eventually your tank will go from .50pp...

The other possibility is that the results are a little off due to the water beinng brackish and not full marine - I know if you use the f...

Is this good algae?

Getting ready to stock my shrimp tank now that shipping can be a thing soon. I'm wondering if this is good algae or if I should be scrubbing it off and changing the gravel. https://41.media.tumblr.com/1392048d38a6d1e523407d65cecfb17c/tumblr_o3ml6oqPEg1u5shduo4_540.jpg https://40.media.tumblr.com/342...

Any recommendations on lighting?

I've got a 5 gallon tank set up for some supershrimp, and pretty much all I need now is a light for it before it'll be ready. I just have absolutely no idea what will work, what's good for macroalgae, etc. Any recommendations on the kinds of specifications I should look for, or better yet a brand/mo...

Re: Anyone out there? I REALLY Need help!....

From my understanding of how filters work, I would put the sponge filter in now - it mostly works via the beneficial bacteria, so it gives them a place to set up. I guess they could establish in the substrate as well, but if bacteria flourished in substrates, filters wouldn't be needed. It will stil...

Re: Newbie seeking advice

I've pulled the plug out already, but having a larger opening would make it easier to remove the shrimp from the globe. I'll try without breaking it though, when the time comes!
