Mineral-Added Water?

Hey folks! I'm upgrading my shrimp to a 10g tank from their current 5g. I grabbed some r/o water to fill the tank and got the salinity to match their current water, but then discovered that the water has minerals added. (They didn't list it on the label. The ingredients list just says "reverse ...

Re: Power Outage :(

My lil guys have endured a few power outages. Like you, I pop a wool sweater or two over top of the tank immediately. When it starts getting below 55 in the house, I will warm up a few cups of tap water until it's warm to the touch, put it in a not-leaky ziploc bag, and put the bag in the tank. That...

Re: Moving with Shrimp

5.5 gallons, a standard rectangular tank, but only filled with about 4g water. I ended up moving some of the shrimp to a 5g bucket, along with about 2/3 of the water. They were fine in the bucket overnight, because I got there at midnight and didn't know where I wanted to put the tank long-term. :P ...

Moving with Shrimp

Hey y'all! It's been a while, but my tank is going well and the population is ever-increasing. :) I've moved a couple times since starting the tank, but always within the same city, about 5 minutes from place to place, so it's been pretty easy. I would just drain the tank down to about 1.5-2 inches ...

Moving House -- How to move shrimp?

Hey all! It's been a while since I posted here, but my shrimp and snails are doing fantastically. It's a rare day when there aren't tiny newly-hatched shrimp bobbing around the surface, with multiple berried females skittering around. Lots of baby snails too! I'll be moving to an apartment this fall...

Re: All Set Up + Snail Question

The video is done uploading. You can see it here. My maybe-white shrimp and one of my banded shrimp are immediately visible; one of the bright red ones comes in later.

Re: All Set Up + Snail Question

Varanus, I was surprised that I didn't see anyone munching on it! I had heard that molt eating was a common behavior, but sadly I had to leave for a while after seeing it, and when I got back it was gone. There's another molt in the tank right now, but not nearly as intact or in any sort of place wh...

Re: Transferring Ecosphere Survivor?

I did end up getting a pack of snails :) Added some pool filter sand as I needed some for my other tank anyways, and the shrimp and snails are both happy to pick through it. As for getting him out of the sphere, what I did was have a clean tupperware that was sort of wide and shallow, but not so wid...

Re: All Set Up + Snail Question

My bad handle on words strikes again...the top is too large by a millimeter, and because of the construction of it, leaves a good half-inch gap where the lid sticks up in the back. Their natural habitat is a bit warmer than our house is during winter (we tend to go light on electricity as much as po...

All Set Up + Snail Question

Pictures to follow once I get back to my computer, but I received my supershrimp and brackish snails today and placed them in my tank :D They're doing well; the shrimp already look more red and the snails are wandering all over the tank. (I have cycled the tank with ammonia before ordering the shrim...

Re: MiniShrimps

Yep, that would be for any animals in the tank. If you won't be putting animals in until it's done cycling, no need to worry about the toxicity.

Re: MiniShrimps

Prime makes ammonia/nitrites/nitrates and chlorine/chloramine safe for animals. Since you don't have animals in there, adding it shouldn't make much of a difference :) Seachem's website does say Prime can make nitrites and nitrates easier for bacteria to handle, but I think you're waiting on ammonia...
