More updates
I did not take pics etc on the weekend, was a bit busy. Anyway here is a big update - The snails, chaeto and shrimp are in the box and do not appear to be in any sort of "great stress or suffering". I say it like this because one might commonly say "doing fine" or "doing gre...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!
I slit open the bag about 30 min before I left work. I would have done it earlier if possible but unfortunate the mail gets to us very late. In that time I think 6 shrimp made it out on their own. I decided to leave the bag as is the box overnight (vs just dumping them). I have some minor system upg...

Package received!
I received everything today in the mail. Normally its really hot this time of year in California but I got lucky - its been unusually cool! Mustafa's packaging was excellent: http://i57.tinypic.com/217rpx.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/5o8uau.jpg The bags were packed nicely in newspaper but I took it ou...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!
Thanks for the insight Mustafa. I am very interested in the snails (particularly the T. granifera) so I will get some. I plan to setup more boxes so (need to get on that) so Im sure 10x will certainly not be overkill once those are up as well. One final decision, at this point is it def best to stoc...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!
Sorry for the lapse in update. While I do believe strongly in cycling tanks, Im one of those people that are typically biting their nails impatiently waiting to stock a new setup. For some reason I have managed to be slow and casual with this one. Anyway, the box looks ready for macro algae and snai...

Re: Snails (Ramshorn specifically) asexual reproduction?
Thanks for the reply. I currently have 1 ramshorn in a small 1g overridden with algae. It's been there for about two weeks and is growing very fast. He/she/it moves very fast too! It's basically just an experiment at this point. No eggs that I can see or offspring yet. I will wait and see.

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!
can I know what glue did you use? Gorilla Glue, which I highly recommend for this specific application. You can buy it at any hardware, department (target walmart etc) or even many grocery stores. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla_Glue https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a7/Gorill...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!
Very nice. Thanks for all the pictures. Ken Thanks for looking! I know at this point its all a bit of hype without shrimp but they should be coming very soon. I suppose the real test will be if it can sustain shrimp, snails, micro and macro algae. Here is the first box with the fitted light. The ma...

Re: My 2 liter Opae Ula project(s)!
The other light arrived a few days ago, and it is much, MUCH better! I mocked it up on the one box that I have that has a crack/hole in it. The first main one is cycling under an obnoxious light setup. Here it is as possibly intended (but for a bigger tank) a bit overkill and awkward: http://i58.ti...

Do the Tarebia granifera bury in the substrate the same way that MTS do?

Snails (Ramshorn specifically) asexual reproduction?
It is commonly documented that many freshwater snails are hermaphrodites, possessing both male and female reproductive organs. What I am unclear on is, can ramshorn snails reproduce from just one specimen? Some sources say that while they are hermaphrodites, it still takes at least 2 snails. Other s...

First Lighting attempt
My first light arrived (actually a few days ago, lagged on posting) and to be honest, Im a bit disappointed. I probably had unrealistic expectations, as is main problems would be easy to forsee, even before buying it. In addition, the light is rather blue. I should note though, that the light appear...

Re: endlers and supershrimp together?
+1 for cherries (RCS) with the Endlers instead. I have lots of RCS in my Endler tank. The Endlers never seem to harass the shrimp, but it is heavily planted. I may or may not get RCS offspring someday, but that is not my goal. I am happy with the number that I have stocked. I dont have supershrimp (...

Re: Have been lurking for a long time..... Now need help....
I dont have much exp with brackish tanks yet (do have a bit with freshwater) It looks like you have too many nutrients and lights on for too long. Mustafa is right that you cant grow things on light alone, but it certainly appears that you have enuff biological... "stuff" in there for thin...
