Re: Where shrimp come to die....

I use Fluval Cycle but I don't believe it is necessary. People here seem to hate that I mention it. It's just some insurance for my peace of mind. I use no other products other than reverse osmosis water and Instant Ocean. I mix at half strength. I use aragonite sand in the sphere. That takes care o...

Re: Larvae light behavior

KenCotigirl,

Wow! Thank you so much for these more than excellent responses. I need that new book. And I do think it is a good idea to wonder if these are separate observations of just repeated the previously stated.

Re: Where shrimp come to die....

Hello TeriAnn, I am so sorry for your losses. I recommend total abandonment of that habitat and everything in it. Move everybody to the new container right away and don't use anything from the contaminated habitat. Obviously there is something very wrong there. No. "Nanosphere 9" has been ...

Marimo success

I feel that it has been enough time to safely say that marimo can, in fact, be kept with Opae Ula. It has been all year now and they are just fine. I have read accounts of failure here. However, I investigated before selecting the ones I chose. Unfortunately, I do not know the origen location. I did...

Re: Nanosphere 9

May 10th I added 180 additional shrimp to the existing population of 100. The population now looks beautiful. Baby production seems really high. The clutches are enormous. They have to be miserable lugging all those eggs around.

I'm surprised that nobody has ever asked how many shrimpies I have.

Re: Larvae light behavior

Varanus: That is a great idea.
Are we absolutely certain that the larvae do not eat?

Kencotigirl: Really? No larvae have been observe in nature???

I just added 180 additional Opae Ula, all at once, to a 9 gallon sphere May 10th.

Re: Nanosphere 9

When I received the Opae Ula there were shrimp carrying eggs. Those shrimp that hatched have grown really fast. Today, I have finally seen a larvae from one of the many shrimp with eggs. This is way too late to be from one of the hoard of shrimp carrying eggs well over a month ago. Obviously, all of...

Re: combating cynobacteria

Obviously, some of the nutrients do get depleted from the water. While, the shrimpies can live in the same water for years, I feel like water changes would have to be better for their health. I believe they do eat the Cyanobacteria. But if it bothers you enough, you can remove it. There is no reason...

Re: Nanosphere 9

Arquisto, How long have you had your marimo in there and what is your salenity level? If I had access to red nosed or Rudolf shrimp, I would put one of those in there for hair / thread algae control. Have a look at those. They are half the size of an Amano shrimp and The Fish Pimp says they are exce...

Re: Discovered A New Brackish Water Plant!

JennyPenny, It is sad. :( I don't think I'm going to be able to get this macro algae. As we can see, there has been no response from Mustafa and I'm just not sure what else I could do to try and get it. There are several guys that work at Aquatic Warehouse and I could keep calling and see if somebod...
