Re: Have 8-year Old Ecosystem Shrimp - Not sure what to do
Are you sure it’s not claws on their front 4 feet? I just looked at my shrimp and they have 2 front claws on each side. It kinda looks fuzzy...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Darn. Hopefully keeping the lava rocks, coral, and some of the water will give them enough good bacteria even though I replaced the substrate. I added 10 more shrimp and 10 snails to the tank. So far so good:

Re: Lots of questions
Unfortunately you can’t really do anything to speed up reproduction (other than the Mustafa method which it sounds like you’re following). You just have to wait. I don’t have any berries yet but I can tell I have females because of the dark eggs developing in the back of their heads. Do you see anyt...

Re: Help with transfering to a new tank.
I would transfer everything you can to the new tank since the old tank is established and has all the good algae and bacteria etc. I recently switched up my tank, and I had to remove all the shrimp first which I did by pouring them out/catching them with a ladle. They say in a cup with their tank wa...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Well crap I killed all my snails  In an attempt to remove whatever poisoned my shrimp and snails I replaced their substrate, removed the orange coral, and replaced 90% of the water. Here is the tank now: 59A2AA95-24CE-43B2-B933-FA17F5154B1E.jpeg While removing the shrimp to change the tank I wa...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Thanks for the help guys! Here is the tank as of today: 3C96A852-6ED8-4F58-A2F7-AE9270510454.jpeg I have left the tank alone since my last post except for one feeding. I haven’t been able to count the total number of shrimp, but I can usually count between 10 and 15 when I try. No berries yet :( I h...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
D5D6A290-A742-4E2D-8378-5AE651F36F38.jpeg I don’t think I’ve lost anymore shrimp, but I can’t get a head count they move around too much. Good news is there is visible green algae, and a snail can be seen snacking on it in the photo! Speaking of snacking, I have only ever fed this tank once. Doubt ...

Re: Oxygen and Color
Thanks for sharing the article! Interesting they had reproduction under conditions similar to the Mustafa method... hint hint I was surprised the shrimp were stressed at only 90 degrees Fahrenheit  I thought they would tolerate heat better being from Hawaii... better buy a fan for the summer ...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
I don’t understand how anything could have gotten in my water. I was so careful  The shrimpers that survived the mass extinction seem ok, but then again they are acting normal just like before and then they started dying. Guess I will do nothing and hope for the best. Unless we think another w...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Been a couple days since the water change. I count only 19 shrimp now that means I lost 24% of my population.
The good news is my snails seem to be reproducing. I have seen a couple small snails shooting up out of the sand recently. At least they seem to like the tank...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
I found another 2 dead after I got home from work today. Ugh. Something must have got in my water, or they are sick and passing around some disease. I changed out 3/4 of the water. Hoping that fixes the problem...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Another shrimp is down
I just counted and there are 23 of the original 25 still alive. If it was the water wouldn’t it affect all of them? I’m afraid a water change would stress them even more.
What would you guys do?

Re: Tank Setup -- General Questions
Full disclosure: I am a novice. That being said, I would replace the water and not use any tap water. All is not lost, as I understand it that would not set your cycle back to zero. There should be lots of organisms still on the sand and the rocks that have also been cycling. I would remove any live...
