Re: Starvation Prevention
No clarification needed. I understood that you took out the macroalgae, treated with Miracle Gro, rinsed, and returned to the tank. I was just saying I feel like trying a few drops in my tank to see if it hurts anything. I don't have pics of the current algae levels, but I'll take some and post. Bas...

Re: Starvation Prevention
Thanks Vorteil. That's good info. I don't have any macroalgae, but my tank has a ton of regular brackish algae. I might try it anyway just to see if it hurts anything.

Re: Starvation Prevention
I wonder if a few drops of regular plant food/fertilizer (without copper, of course) would help algae grow as well? Has anyone tried that with supershrimp?
I did put some Miracl-Gro in my planted freshwater tank with cherry shrimp and they seemed unaffected.

Re: Shrimp and aquarium dummy
Thanks for the tank advice - is there a good place online to buy things like this? I've been looking at Amazon just to get ideas, because they have a lot of everything in one place... I'm not sure which country you're in, but Walmart.com has an "Aqua Culture 10-Gallon Glass Aquarium" for ...

Re: Shrimp and aquarium dummy
My opinion on that tank is: beware. A lot of times the cheapest part of a tank kit like that is the hood/lid/light. If that goes out and the tank is an odd shape, you're stuck. If you get a rectangular tank and the hood/lid/light goes out or isn't bright enough or isn't what you expected (overly che...

Re: Starvation Prevention
It's okay to just leave them alone and never worry about feeding them. If you feel uncomfortable with that, then what Varanus said is the accepted wisdom of the board. (My personal opinion is don't bother removing uneaten food: 1. I'm lazy. 2. Why disturb the shrimp by fishing out food? 3. Leave it ...

Re: Aquarium safe rocks?
I wouldn't worry about it. Anything that was going to leach out of the rocks should have already done so long ago. You should be okay, as long as you're using natural rock and not something painted or otherwise altered.

Re: Setting up tank immediately ASAP possible?
You're very welcome. Let us know how it goes. If there doesn't seem to be enough room for 11 shrimp in the bag water don't sweat it. It's only temporary. You can always mix up a gallon of brackish water and add a bit every day to the bag water for a few days. As an FYI, I bought 60-65 shrimp from an...

Re: Setting up tank immediately ASAP possible?
If you wanted to move the shrimp to a newly cycled tank here's how I would do it: Set up the new tank. Take some water and as much hardscape and substrate as you can from the old tank and put it in the new one. Consider leaving the new tank outside where it can get plenty of sunlight and germs. Insi...

Re: Tank Colapse
Interesting....I had not heard that about the sand. Could be something there. I didn’t think of it earlier but we do run the carpet cleaner from time to time due to my cat. I’d there a way I can minimize the risk to the shrimp when we do this? The tank didn’t exactly come with a lid and I haven’t b...

What's your substrate? Is it a deep layer of sand? See this topic: https://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6125 To go along with Veranus, others have mentioned tank crashes from people using spray furniture polish near the shrimp. https://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopi...

Re: 11 months in and still no babies
I'm someone who suspected that the light at night was messing up reproduction. http://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6414 I can't be sure, of course. But I covered the light the last time I saw a berried shrimp and about a month later I counted 10 larvae. (I keep it covered a...

Re: Can we prevent hair algae and hydroids in the first place?
And if you somehow *do* drag in some hair algae from somewhere else...it's not that hard to get rid of it. Just remove as much as you can by hand periodically while letting the macroalgae (and surface algae) grow and outcompete it in a low nutrient environment. At some point it becomes so weak that...

Re: ...but, brackish water plants do exist in anchialine pools
I set up a planted freshwater shrimp tank a few years ago. I grew to hate it. The plants required "constant" maintenance. By "constant" I mean I had to get in there and trim them back and replant every month or so. It took 30-60 minutes each time. Also, my freshwater shrimp never...
