Re: Finally!

Day 27 update. So far the female is still holding the eggs and looking very good. They seem nice and tight against the body so I’m hoping that over the next few days they hatch. Here are a couple of pictures that I took of her this morning. They aren’t the best pictures but at least you can see how ...

Re: Finally!

This is a 17 day update. I saw both berried females today. The one that had two eggs now looks like she only has one (may still have two but I only saw her for a split second), and the one with a lot of eggs still has a lot. Hopefully they can hold onto them for another 2 weeks and then we should ha...

Re: Finally!

Thanks Vorteil. I only have three large size lava rocks in my 5 gallon tank but the shrimp definitely know how to hide. I was just looking in the tank and I was only able to count 6 of the 30 shrimp that I have. I know I still have 30 because last week when I fed them I was able to count all 30. So ...

Re: Finally!

03amida thanks for the encouragement. Did your shrimp hide alot or were they in plain site most of the time? My female with the ‘lots’ of eggs seems to always be front and center on a lava rock, while the one that only had two eggs hasn’t been seen for a few days. Zlatan2601 how long have you had yo...

Re: Finally!

Thanks SuperProofer, I’m pretty excited that it’s finally happening. Update: I haven’t seen the two egg shrimp since that first day so either she is a pretty good hider or she dropped the eggs. The other shrimp with lots of eggs tends to stay on top of a lava rock and is very easy to spot. She is do...

Finally!

Well, its finally happened. After 1 year, 7 months, and 19 days I have my first berried female. And not just one female but two. The first I saw this morning had only 2 eggs but then when I was looking for her this afternoon I saw another one with many eggs. I guess just leaving them alone is the wa...

Re: Is this the right kind of green algae?

Mike.d thanks for the words of encouagement. Your algae does remind me of mine. I will definitely not feed again until the algae is gone. I was looking at the tank last night and the shrimp are active so they must be eating either the algae itself or the biofilm on it. I was thinking about adding so...

Re: Is this the right kind of green algae?

Water has no real smell. Haven’t fed for over a month and that feeding was the only feeding in about 4 months. There is shrimp poop that shows up on most of the algae so I think it is just recycling the shrimp waste. There are 30 shrimp in the tank.

Is this the right kind of green algae?

Can someone tell me if they have a similar algae to this light green fuzz that grows in my 5 gallon tank? IMG_0303.jpeg The tank has been running for about 17 months and this algae has been there for at least a year. The question is, is this a type of algae that the shrimp eat? I definitely see them...

Re: 11 months in and still no babies

Opaela thanks for the reply. 1. The shrimp are in a room pretty much to themselves all day. I’m in there maybe at most 1 hour per day and they are sitting on a bookcase in the corner of the room. No water movement to speak of. 2. I really don’t check the parameters but I did check the salinity a few...

Re: 11 months in and still no babies

That feeding of spirulina will be their last until all the algae is gone! Thanks for the reply.

Re: 11 months in and still no babies

Update: we are 17 months in and still no babies. Shrimp are doing well, they have lots of algae covering the lava rocks and three sides of the tank. They swim around and are nice and red. I’ve seen molts and a lot of them have saddles but still no babies. I did add a little spirulina about a month a...

Salinity and breeding question

Does the salinity of the water influence breeding? I have had my 30 shrimp since November 2017 and have not had a berried shrimp yet. The tank is doing well with lots of algae growing on the lava rocks and the aragonite substrate. The shrimp are nice and red, lively and have been sporting saddles fo...

Re: 11 months in and still no babies

Thank you all very much for your replies. I will stop the feeding indefinitely now and see what happens. It’s good to know that others had a long wait and that eventually it just happens.
