Re: Strange alien arm.

Trust me it’s alive. I will set up a video operation to capture the elusive beast on film.

Re: Berried opa caught in chaeto and died

The other shrimp seem fine and I'm not sure she was tangled but she was deep down in it. She turned bright red. I was thinking she stressed herself out trying to keep her eggs together in the chaeto.

Berried opa caught in chaeto and died

Have any of of you ever had any of your berried shrimp get caught in the chaeto and die? Came home to one of my berried females today bright red and down in the chaetomorpha not moving. I knew it didn’t look normal so I investigated with my long tweezers and sure enough she was dead. Her eggs came o...

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

Things I noticed since yesterday morning as all of this comes together. 30 minutes after my light came on I was drinking my coffee and walked by my tank. I noticed that my opae were swimming around frantically and darting all over the place, something they have never done before. I was most certainl...

SuperProofer wrote: Sun May 27, 2018 10:18 am Nope. Nothing special. Just let them be. Don't disturb the tank and she'll do the rest. It's a sign the conditions in your tank are just right.
That’s good to hear SuperProofer. It’s really interesting watching how she scoops them up and tucks them back into her body. Great learning experience.

Re: Importance of Lava Rock

I used the Carib Sea South Sea Base Rock because it came perfect sizes with lots of holes. I'm using lava on my next one just because of the color scheme I am using but I have been extremely pleased with the Base Rock.

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

Cool thread (-: It was fun to read your journey with your ecosphere. I had an ecosphere myself and recently let my shrimp loose into the tank world, I am having some ups and downs but I think everything will work out! RIP Cooper, I’m glad you’re honoring him. Congrats on the molt! Shrimpnoobie it h...

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

Squeezed my balls today to get them to sink. They just popped back up after a couple of hours but I noticed this a few minutes ago. My first molt!! That I can see anyways.

Lighting

So what type of lights are you all using? I'm changing over to an acrylic someday and want my setup to look a bit more appealing. I'm currently using two Dennerle Nano 5.0 watt Power LED at 6500 Kelvin on a 10g tank. I don't get much noticeable algae growth but my inhabitants I'm sure are just doing...

Great article. We still have hope that someday we will be able to adapt something else besides the three but patience is important in this hobby. Put that article in the book someday.

Treating RO water

I treat my RO water for my betta tank to put back in some of the minerals. Does anyone treat their RO water for their opa tanks? I have just been using straight RO for top off.

Re: What did I do wrong

First thing you need to do is stop feeding. Second you did good by removing all those live plants. It's just my opinion that macroalgae (only the studd Mustafa on this site sells) is the only type of plant you want. I have 50+ opas in my tank and they are doing great with just brackish snails and ma...

Re: What did I do wrong

What do you have in each tank? I see sea fans in the one but your primary tank looks like it has some live plants in it which at this point has not been widely successful to use with opas. You could get an API Saltwater test and see where your water levels are. The tank is cycled right? Usually brow...

Re: Strange alien arm.

Haven't added anything. I removed the heater and thermometer to get it down to just the basics. Maybe I didn't rinse the crushed coral good enough? Heck I put that in a long long time ago. Im wondering if it's a threat at all to the opas or if I should take it out and desalinate it in my empty fresh...
