How to clean up macroalgae?
They make a mess! Lol. What’s the easiest way to clean it up? I tried agitating the water with a net and catching what I could before but that barely made a dent. Any tips or advice? Currently have two that are berried and quite a few in different stages. Some were born a few weeks ago and some are ...

Re: New tank algae
You’re fine. Order the shrimps and snails and algae in like 2 weeks. Mine never developed any visible signs of algae. They always ate the microorganisms. The algae barely developed after and it’s hard to see but it’s there.

WORK TANK: The female at work was acting a little strange to me on Monday. She had her swimlets our like she was pregnant and fluffing her eggs but nothing was there. I also observed other shrimps acting erratically. Basically they were chasing each other and swimming in a weird pattern trying to fo...

Re: Question About Rocks
From what I know as long as they’re not live rocks you’ll be fine. Just make sure you clean them. I usually boil mine first and then let them cool down and rinse off before adding them to the tank.

Re: 11 months in and still no babies
What Varanus said. Feeding them every other week is a lot. I too have never seen full blown algae on any of my two tanks. Just tiny specs on the glass and some now on the rocks. I would say just continue to wait it out. My tank at work only reproduced once but I think that’s partly due to only havin...

Re: Some up close and personal pics!
It seems to me the snails won’t stop reproducing at home! Lol. I’m pretty sure I have around 25 snails from the initial 10. The tank at my work only has 3 active snails with no reproduction. Should I transfer some of the adults from home to the one at work? You probably have *a lot* more snails in ...

Re: Some up close and personal pics!
My snails are reproducing like crazy as well! I'm starting to get worried b/c I only have a half gallon tank and the 5 I put in it are at least 25 in less than 1 year :( That being said, my shrimp are reproducing a bunch lately too, so I guess I just had a bunch of great algae in the half gallon ta...

Gradual change I don’t think so. But like it’s said, they prefer breeding in 60s to 70s degree weather

Re: New opae ula owner ~
Hi and welcome! Like varanus said you should be fine. I waited like 5 weeks or so and I never saw algae. It was until like a month or two later that I finally saw a specs on my tank walls using a magnifying glass. For your lamp situation just get any regular lamp with a bulb attachment. Then buy a r...

Re: First Timer!
Welcome! Yes that is a huge tank considering a 1 gal can hold a lot. Lol. Your snails are fine. They will do that and they can move and burrow just fine in the sand. I have some at home that has grown and reproduced while some at my work stayed burrowed for months! Only recently I’ve seen them come ...

Re: Help me get babies please
When I had hair algae it looked like silk thread to me. Definitely clean it up if you see it. Also your macroalgae is looking really big. Maybe trim it down? I don’t think you need more shrimp. It’ll just happen on its own. Maybe the flux in temp? I’m still fairly new to this as well but so far I ha...

Re: Algae Growing on Shrimp
You should probably be fine but you’re clearly over feeding them if they refuse. I’ve gone a few months without giving them anything. They survive off the biofilm and algae and whatever else is growing in there.
