Re: Shrimp sphere adventures
Welp, I decided to experiment with different ways to combat the hair algae. I've added some molly fry to the sphere. They've been in there for ~4 weeks now, and I haven't fed them anything specifically at all. I notice them picking at the hair algae quite a bit, so they definitely do eat it! Not sur...

Re: Shrimp sphere adventures
I love your orb, so classical. I have a question on your sphere light, where did you get it? This is actually just a Philips Hue Go light that I had sitting around. Probably not the best light to use, but seems to work well, and I can change colors! Still battling hair algae, but shrimp seem red an...

Re: Shrimp sphere adventures
Hair algae outbreak! It's starting to grow everywhere, all over the sea fan, on the gravel, everywhere. I can occasionally pull small strands out, but the stuff on the sea fan is tightly secured. Not sure what to do, maybe give it a trim with scissors? Hoping that the moss ball can out-compete them ...

Re: Shrimp sphere adventures
Your sphere is beautiful! What did the grass blade turn out to be? It turned out to be a small piece of grass. It just grew to be a little bit bigger, then unfortunately (or fortunately) uprooted and floated at the surface. Unfortunately nothing very exciting. How did you get the sea fans into the ...

Re: Shrimp sphere adventures
Also, where did you get your sea fans? They look great! The sea fan was shipped from a random amazon seller, which came in the mail from China. I wasn't too happy when I got it because it was fairly uneven, so I ended up cutting it in two which is why the one in the front has kind of a rough edge. ...

Shrimp sphere adventures
Inspired by the beautiful shrimp reactor here previously posted, I decided to create my own. The shrimp have been alive and happy for about a month now, and I'll occasionally update this when interesting events happen. The current state of the tank: shrimp-1.JPG First signs of algae before adding sh...

Re: First shrimp desk jar at work
Welp, bad news. After coming back from the winter break it appears there was a shrimpocalypse. All but 2 shrimps were dead, and those 2 were not swimming quite right. My hunch is that the generic aquarium rocks I started with were too big, and some food I threw in the tank before break rotted at the...

Re: First shrimp desk jar at work
Interesting. They seem to be slowly growing/spreading in the tank. I wonder if it could end up carpeting the jar after a long time. Time will tell.

Re: First shrimp desk jar at work
Anyone know what kind of algae is in the bottom of this picture? The green strands are slowly growing, and all around the bottom of the tank. I'm not sure if it's pieces from the marimo, or a new type of algae. The shrimp will often pick up a few strands and pick at them. Just wondering if there's a...

Re: First shrimp desk jar at work
Thanks for the warning. I'll probably drop down to a single small ball and see how it does over the next few months.

First shrimp desk jar at work
Been wanting something for my desk and have been putting together my shrimpjar while lurking here. Found myself fairly addicted, so I'm now working on one for home as well. Here's my work jar. Initial jar with gravel. The shrimp often try to get down into the gravel to get at food. I hope they don't...

Is this Seachem Brackish Salt ok for use?
Found this on Amazon, has anyone used it? Think it's ok for the shrimp?

Re: New Opae Ula tank (in a giant lab reactor)
Really cool. I love the shape, and might try to do something on a smaller scale. What did you end up using for a base of the reactor?
Edit - I found a few things when I search for "bowl stand", maybe one of these will work.
