Re: Ramblings from a Vernal Pool Geek

I had some clam shrimp for a while with some eggs I got via the UK from a supplier in Ohio. These never produced eggs, but were very neat animals. I'd love to get more. I contacted the felow in Ohio directly but he had lost interest.

Try a tank divider. Shrimp get one side to themselves.

Re: WSS Virus and shrimp

We don't know much about how it is spread, but it seems to be from food made from sick animals. If you get new stock, or keep crayfish and shrimp in the same area, it is prudent to keep the nets, etc. separate to prevent cross contamination.

Re: RCS Breeding : Keeping lines strong

Never in my case. I think it is a myth with shrimp that you need to do that. In most cases years ago when I tried it, it ended in disaster. Dome nasty would come in with the shrimp, or the shrimp were contaminated with wild or bad colors. If your shimp are not doing well, check if you are over feedi...

Re: Ramblings from a Vernal Pool Geek

I don't know who said that you could not keep a self sustaining colony going, but I'll bet they sold brine shrimp eggs. They only lay eggs when the water conditions indicate they are going to die. Poor water quality and high salt levels can trigger that. I don't use any sort of filtration. Th...

Re: C. Patzcuarensis babies vs. C.Shufeldtii babies ?Help?

I'm not sure about the CPO, but the drawf cajuns did stay with mom for 1 molt. Many crays are larval at hatch and stay with mom for more than a month. Maybe Newjohn will chime in as I know he's bred them. CPO's are far more difficult to breed than cajuns. Have you read the article on them in the for...

Re: Ramblings from a Vernal Pool Geek

I've had a colony of self sustaining artemia for over a year. No filter, no water changes. Just a bubbler, lots of light and marine green water. The artemia do not deplete the algae. Once a month I add 2.5 cc's of each of the 2 part pro-culture ferts. Daylight FL bulbs running 16 on/8 off. I harvest...

No, don't feed them that!
Use Golden Pearls, check aquabid. 500 micron is good if you don't have loads of copepods.

Re: Orconectes Lancifer The shrimp crayfish

Each state sets its own rules. In NY no crayfish is protected, In VA it is illegal to own practically any crayfish. Those who decide also changes from state to state. Could be fish & game, could be the state EPA, or the state DEC. Inquiries should be made discretely and in general. Don't say som...

Very tiny. Here is a shot of one of mine:

That little up-side-down seahorse is it. They are nearly transparent and only about 1mm.
This is one a month old:
