Hey, Everyone,
Had my 2 1/2 gallon tank up and running for just at two years now with no problems. Have just noticed six dead snails. Am I not feeding enough? Seems odd.

Re: Breeding issue
Maybe give them a place to hide. Lave rock cave or ceramic pot with a hole or “U” cut into the top and then placed upsid3 down in the tank. They like to be able to get away from it all.

Re: Plant fertilizer in shrimp tanks
Sure. I lost my first batch of macro algae. I was told it was because my lighting was too bright. Bought more, turned down the lighting and now everything is growing well. Seems counterintuitive but it worked for me.

Re: Plant fertilizer in shrimp tanks
I do use Flourish. Two drops per week in my 2.5 gallon tank. Over the five months I’ve done this I have not had any issues. Shrimp are breeding, algae is growing and the macro algae has gone nuts. The other thing I have done is turn down the lighting which certainly helped.

Re: Black Aragonite Sand
From everything I’ve read you want to avoid live sand. It will cause ammonia spikes.

Re: Pale macro algae
Well, I believe the chaeto is indeed dead. How necessary is it to have anyway? Have some algae, but if the chaeto isn’t needed I’ll move ahead without it.

Would a ml of Seachem Flourish help?

Re: Pale macro algae
Thank you. Precisely what happened. Before giving up I think I’ll cut it in half to give the remaining algae a chance. Can’t hurt!

I hadn’t heard that about the light, but it’s worth a shot. Thank you.

Re: Pale macro algae
I feed them three times a month, alternating between Spirulina and Cobalt Spirulina Pellets. Having no algae this regimen seems to make sense.

Re: Pale macro algae
Thank you. Reef Crystals salt. 1.013 salinity per the refractometer. Argonite substrate. Distilled water. Nicrew lighting. Ammonia - 0. It would seem the macro algae is not receiving enough nutrients.

Pale macro algae
My 2.5 gallon tank was set up March 5, 2020, and 15 shrimp, 10 snails and a ball of macro algae was added April 29. The shrimp are breeding but I have lost all of the fry. The macro algae is turning white. Any suggestions as to how to improve the setup?
