Reading the pHep5

Sorry if this has been asked, I did a search and only received one thread, but at what point do you stop swishing the pHep5 in the water and take the reading? The instruction manual only states to swish it for a few seconds and to make sure the stability icon is displayed. Well, if I do that, I get ...

Can you culture them in cups and small containers or do they require more room than that? Thanks for the tip. Some people report success in 1 gallon containers, but I have had no luck with it. I use 30 gallon garbage cans. Temperature sensitive? Or could you keep them in an unheated garage? (Yah, I...

Shouldn't use the iceberg lettuce, in all honesty. It has no real nutritional value, just a small amount of fiber. The benefit to humans on a diet comes from the fact it requires more calories to digest than you actually gain from eating it.

How do you prepare the leaf litter to ensure the absence of fungus/molds though? I know you said to soak the leaves until they sink on their on before putting them in the tank, but do you boil them first? No boiling whatsoever. I just soak them so they sink and that's it. Thanks. And, thanks to bad...

Uhm, rainwater varies in pH, even in one spot. It depends on many factors, including how recently it rained prior to the current storm. Rain helps to remove contaminants from the air. You really need a pH test kit, at the least. It is impossible for anyone else to tell you with any degree of accurac...

It's not uncommon for ACF's to be mistakenly sold as ADF's either. ACF's will eat anything they can fit in their mouths and most things they can't as well. ADF's are nearly as blind as a bat and hunt primarily by smell. While it is possible they would eat baby shrimp, it is highly unlikely they'd be...

I doubt an ADF would be able to harm the adult shrimp, however any babies would be consumed, if the ADF managed to catch them that is.

Thanks. Trying to plan for a planted invertebrate tank soon(relatively speaking), with shrimp as the main feature. I'll be using a 55 gallon tank (currently housing hermit crabs, but want to build a better home for them). Perhaps a 10 gallon sized UGF to create the current, covered in natural "...

Simplest way to test for gross defect would be to set up three seperate hatchery tanks with same initial water parameters, same plants, same substrated and identical deco, but with a 2-4 degree temperature difference between each tank, for a total spread of 4-8 degrees. Put in your test mating pairs...
