You should boil all leaves before adding to a tank. There are pretty nasty things you can bring to your tank with leaves. Like planaria, hydra and so on. Those do not always require water, but can live in a permanently humid leave layer on the ground of a forest, too. Doh!.....To late for me on thi...

NewJohn are you replying because you are keeping them in Acidic water with little success? Cause I keep mine in water ph 7 or so and they muliply like crazy....I even get young ones a third the size of my adults that carry and give offspring...Even in a rather unkept tank that houses tons of guppies...

I dropped in a piece about 2.5" square, well-decayed in the pond. In a few minutes it was covered with shrimp, like ants at a picnic. It also seems to have stirred up quite a bit of activity. There are more shrimp than usual swimming around actively. Maybe the scent whet their appetites?...

I think that Mustafa has some blue genes in his cajuns as some seem to have a tint of blue, or at least mine do. TKD Yeah I got five Cajuns from Mustafa as well (one being a male).... The first generation of offspring are just starting to reach adulthood and one or two of them seem to have a much m...

I've never tried RCS in pH that low. For sure they do better in alkaline hard water. I keep mine at pH 7.6 and my water is hard as nails. I do know that nitrates or phosphates >5ppm will cause eggs to drop, and will inhibit production over time. Are you sure you have a male in there? No males will ...

Awsome/Concerned

I was not really sure which forum to put this in since it includes both Crayfish and shrimp stuff...but chose to put it in shrimp because the "concerned part" was shrimp related.. [Awsome Part of the Post] A while back I ordered five Cambarellus shufeldtii from the Petshrimp store.... They...

Electric pH meter...?

I was considering purchasing an Electric pH meter instead of using those annoying and inaccurate strips....

I know that some users here use these devices, does anyone have any recommendations for brands that are affordable and accurate in terms for use in shrimp keeping....?

Never tried it with hornwort, but it should be fine as all the hornwort in the US is the same species anyway. It's a very adaptable plant. The only thing I don't like about hornwort is that after a while your tank is filled with its thin "leaves" or bits and pieces of the plant, as the pl...

Cajun's eating Egeria Densa

I was wondering why some of my Elodea plants were frayed at the leaves whereever there was new growth. So I was sitting there watching my Cajun Dwarf Crayfishes... I watched as one climbed up the stalk of one of the Elodea plants....Then as it perched from the top of the plant where the new growth w...

Hatching?

Ok I searched several times using different key words but I could not really find what I was looking for. When a female is carrying fertilized eggs do these eggs hatch directly off her swimmerettes? Or do the eggs get dropped to the ground after some period of carrying to hatch on their own? From wh...
