Daaaaaang! That is a lot!

Momma #1 had her babies on July 4th. Momma #2 is having hers today. I can't believe in just under a year this tank went from 3 shrimp in a seemingly dying and gross-looking habitat to over 30 shrimps, 5 snails that I can count and completely clean glass. Crazy!

Hm, I don't know. I'd have to do some research on what that is. I've never seen anything in there other than the shrimp and snails. Not sure where it would have come from. But as I suspected, the 2nd female is again berried as well! But now I have a serious question... Is there concern about inbreed...

If you still don't have any shrimp, I would say start over. Better to be safe than sorry.

When they are dead, if you manage to find a body before the rest eat it, it will be a solid object, not the ghostly shell as appears here. You'll be able to tell (but hopefully never have to).

Update: it looks like 2 of the 3 remaining shrimp are girls because now 2 are berried!

Woot! I have a berried shrimp! Let's hope the babies survive this time. I'd like to see this tank full of life again. Fingers crossed!!

If you're worried about salinity, one immediate thing you could do is a 50% (or more) water change. Mix up some new brackish water and make sure you're using the proper proportions of salt per the instructions on this site. And make sure it's marine/reef salt, not just "aquarium" salt.

I may have judged the little tank too quickly... The remaining 3 shrimp seem to be thriving. I find at least one molt every 2 weeks or so; they have nearly tripled in size. I've never seen shrimp this large before. Of course, less shrimp means less eating which leads to more algae buildup, which is ...
