The proof is in the pudding - are they growing rapidly without health problems? Do they reproduce readily? Then they're OK. Exactly... many of the species produced in this way are burrowing species. They live in smaller spaces with much worse water conditions than they would ever see in there. This...

Check out the thread below. It appears small containers are not uncommon for raising crays. http://www.crayfishmates.com/forum/experiment-new-condo-t1031.html Sincerely, Paul E. Turley Yeah its definately not a new idea. Many people have come up with great cheap ideas. http://bluecrayfish.com/harve...

Your welcome. The only issue I have found with this setup is ease of feeding.

The original design that the company used was much easier to do in house. In stead of those plastic moulded units they used plastic bottles like the ones used by Gatorade with the large openings. They then drilled holes in the side of the bottle. Mounted the caps to plastic or wood strips so they co...

DanHagen. Nice pair of crays.

Do genetics always work this way with crays? Brown carrying recessive gene for orange never throws a BB when mated to orange? Do young always carry the recessive gene?

thanx, Sher
THe orange is not a recessive gene.

Yes there have been studies of this. When kept in numbers together for long periods in enclosed systems like aquariums or closed aquaculture systems crayfish will synchronize their molts. Its usually males that synch to other males & females to females. I will find the article & post a link ...

No they only produce female offspring. That is why it is so hard to identify the species. You need a form 1 male to identify the species.

Another easy way to tell is the claw or chela. All crayfish & lobsters have movable inner claws. Shrimp move the outside part of the claw like this picture.

Cherax is a VERY large group & to suggest that they all have the same requirements would be ill advised. These crays have completely different requirements than C. Quads. I would listent to what zwergkrebszuechter told you as he is one of the best breeders of ornamental Cherax in Germany. You ca...

Actually that first picture is mislabeled & Chris doesn't even use it on his website any longer. Both those pictures are of Cherax sp (2). This species hasn't been scientifically studied & named yet. Is thought that they are two morphs of the same species. This is what is classified as a Che...

I know some guys in Germany would be drooling over those. Yes they are. :-D Do you happen to come to Florida in the future? There are great species like Cambarellus schmitti and blacki. I have not seen photos of black yet, but schmitti is awesome. LOL I was thinking of you Andy when I first saw tho...
