I am by no means an expert, I am a novice. What I would do is pay close attention to your colony over the next few months. Separate the differently colored varieties and breed them. Take notes of the prevalence of the new color morph, if they actually produce more of that morph. If your colony, over...

My 46 bowfront is an invert tank now, except for three Otocinclus cats. I have noticed since I removed the discus, corys, and whiptail that the shrimp are much more active, even the the shrimp that are less than a centimeter are more active. Yesterday I counted 12 of them right out in the open! I di...

Moving (update)
I moved all my tanks today. As I said before the move I would be getting rid of the discus to prevent predation. I brought them to the competitors store and picked up a load liquids for my Bio-cube. I thought that I had about 60-70 RCS in my tank based on observations made of berried females over ti...

You will want to modify the intake strainer on your Eheim canister filter. Your little baby shrimplets will be sucked into it. One thing that I do that does require maintenance every couple of days to free up water flow is this: pick up some foam for canister filters the cubes or sheets will work. C...

I have yet to separate my ghost shrimp when the females get berried up. Most of them do not survive. I have had several survive, they are still alive and eating after several months. There are several different species of shrimp found at LPS that are called ghost shrimp. As a matter of fact, the las...

I have two tanks at the store that are chocked full of Gammarus. I have found that so long as Ammonia and Nitrites are 0, Nitrates are less than 100ppm they will thrive. They are excellent detrivores and when you have a large number of them they are quite efficient in removing buildup. I have yet to...

Just today I had an experience with a Damselfly at work. Over the past few days I had noticed my Guppy population diminishing. I could not figure out what was happening. But this morning when I turned the tank light on I noticed a huge (6cm) damselfly wandering around the substrate. I was a bit emba...

They pull our water straight from Lake Superior. A few years back we were advised not to drink our water for a few days because of possible contamination due to a flood that swallowed part of the city. I also do not understand why I can drink from the lake and not get sick, but they have to add all ...

Moving
Ok folks I am moving in a few weeks. I used the search feature and came up with five pages of threads. Two of them pertained to moving from point A to point B. Here is my plan of action. Let me know what you think. I have four aquariums, a 46 gallon, 29 gallon, 20H, and a ten gallon. I also have unl...

It depends. I have a Fluval 304 running almost full capacity on a 46 gallon tank and my RCS do very well. They do not mind the current. Other species may have different preferences. The important thing, however, is to install a foam pre-filter on your intake tube. Otherwise your little babies could ...
