Re: RCS and Seachem's Flourish
If you grow java moss and java fern, no ferts are ever needed, the shrimp love it, and everyone stays happy. I never use ferts, but my tap water is liquid rock, so I need no minerals. The shrimp provide enough nitrates for these plants.

Probably shipping stress, though it is odd with the little guys. They can die from stress up to a month after you get them. Be carefull of over feeding.

Re: One of my CRS
Mine is a 4 stage 30 gallon per day unit and while it does a great job on water hardness, chlorine and chloramines, the other stuff I talked about gets through. Your water may be better than mine, which comes from the Hudson River and there are all sorts of factories and ships all up & down the ...

Re: One of my CRS
Keep in mind that R/O water does not remove all contaminants from the water. Mine passed Sodium Hydroxide and some hydrocarbons. The hydroxide was easy to burn out with muratic acid, but the hydrocarbons needed special treatment. Too much work for me.

Re: ro water purchase vs buying a filter
If you have naturally soft water, the Kold Steril is the way to go. Hard water like mine, stick with hard water shrimp. I tried for a long time fighting my water, re-constituting with R/O right, constant water monitoring to be sure it stayed good. It wasn't any fun. Now I pick animals that like my w...

Re: ro water purchase vs buying a filter
R/O filters have their uses, but you generally need to mix minerals back in, or dilute it with conditioned tap water. I have an R/O unit, but it mostly gets uded for my wife for washing her hair. I do use it to make up for evaporation when I don't have time for a water change. What I am using now is...

Post a picture please. I'm not familiar with that particular name. Many long arm shrimp will eat just about anything they can catch.

Re: killer crayfish
If you got a P. alleni, that is par for the course. Most crays under 2" will eat eachother given the chance and especially when one molts.

Re: snail recommendations
In a small tank MTS are the best. I also like ref rams, but they don't stay pretty if kept with MTS. The MTS chew holes in their shells. Red rams look really good in soft water tanks.
Large tanks I use apple snails and Chinese trapdoor snails.
