Re: Tank died

When I was cycling my tank I experimented with it since there was no snails and no shrimp in it. Several times I added organic matter to try and stimulate algae growth and each time after a day my water levels would get all out of wack. So I finally decided to just leave it alone and let it do it’s ...

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

I took a final water reading on Tuesday night since my shrimp were set to arrive on Wednesday. Salinity holding at 1.014 just fill it with distilled water when it’s low. PH 8.3. I had a bit of a hard time placing the color of the tested sample up against the card but that’s what we came up with. Amm...

Thanks Nelly!

Re: Trimming Chaetomorph

Thank you for the responses. It has already shed twice and those new strands are starting to grow. So it keeps drawing itself underneath the aquarium light but my set up doesn’t get much natural light in its current location. Insterestingly enough the shrimp I put in on Wednesday are all over it, ei...

Trimming Chaetomorph

Anyone had one of these for an extended period of time? Do you have to trim them? My supershrimp will be here on Wednesday and would rather trim it before I put them in the tank. I bought mine from Mustafa and it was the size of a golfball, now it's at a size where me and my gf are afraid we will wa...

A Natural Grocer just opened up literally next door that has an RO machine. Done deal. Thanks everyone.

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

As for ammonia levels...I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you see algae, which you do, everything is just fine. :) The mossball probably moved because some air bubbles that it produced during photosynthesis got caught in it. How is the tank doing now? Everything leveled out in time. The green a...

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

I would even go for 1.014/1.013 for the salinity, I’ve read that for reproduction, the best range is abouth this Yeah I might take out another pint and see if I can get it down into the mid range Mustafa suggests since right now it's at the top of it. Thanks for the reply and pointing that out. Hop...

Re: Question about Lid Lights

I’m curious about this too. I ordered a 5 gallon pickle jar for my next tank and was wanting some sort of cork light set up. What’s the wattage on them?

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

Decided to do a water test before ordering the shrimp and looks like I have some ammonia. I put a pinch of spirulina in the tank about a week ago and I’m suspecting that may be where it’s coming from. I removed all of it I could as it was just floating on top. I know ammonia levels will rise and fal...

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

Snails arrived from Mustafa yesterday and in they went. At first was concerned because most of them were just rolling around in the bag but he reassured me that this was normal. I put them in the tank last night and almost immediately they all began to slither around. One smart one found the algae b...

Store bought RO vs Distilled water

So knowing I already can go to the aquarium store and get water I was curious If I could just pick some up at the grocery store. I looked at all of the options available and found the Safeway brand Refreshe Purified Water was the only one that didn't state it had anything added for taste just simple...

I bought some of this a while back. Haven't had to chance to use it with a full group of shrimp yet. Any opinions?

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

Looks like your tank is ready for shrimp! :) As for snails, I wouldn't worry about 10 snails being too much. They're not. The ones I send out are very small to begin with and you'll be lucky to notice them at all in the beginning. As they grow they self regulate their numbers anyway so there won't ...
