Ghosts
I now have a female Palaemonetes with 30-40 eggs on here swimmerlets. Nice & green so far. I'm told they go yellow before hatching. I'm going to isolate here in a separate tank and see if I can't beef it up with some copepods, monia, and green water. As soon as the eggs drop, I'll pull her out. ...

Amano Score!
While browsing a local Ma & Pop petstore today I was told that they had some Amano's. They took me over to a sad little goldfish fishbowl with 2 disgusting lumps of string algae in in it. Sure enough there were 3 Amanos, but also about 5 other shrimp I was not familiar with. They called them &qu...

Bamboo Shrimp
I'm using a pair of Peguin 550 power heads with a reverse flow adapter to suck through the sponge fileter. These guys have completely removed everything off of the filters in two days. This is in a 10 gallon aquarium. I'll probably buy a 20L soon. There seems to be enough flow comming up through the...

Bamboo shrimp
Yes indeed I did read that. I also searched throughout the forum for bamboo. Searching for wood gave me way too much to sort out. Anyway, so far so good. These guys are getting comfortable and exploring the aquarium. They are still brown, but a nice yellow stripe has appeared on their backs. At firs...

Got Bamboo Shrimp?
OK, so I'm an impulse shrimp aflicted addict. I was picking up supplies at Petco, and what would they have but a fresh delivery of Bamboo shrimp. I couldn't resist. Now I have 3 little ones. I got the smallest they had, about 2" each (2.5" max). Now I need info. I did a seach on bamboo and...

Severe pH swing to basic caused by using marble chips as substrate in my tank. Use something made of quartz or granite instead.

reconstitution of RO
I use Proper pH 7.5. 1 scoop to a gallon of water, then I use 1 cup of that added to a gallon of RO. They don't make scoops tiny enough so I use that method. Into each gallon of buffered water I put in 1.5 cc's of each of the 2 parts of Kent Pro-culture. Makes my Riccia grow like crazy. My amano's, ...

Amano Shrimp
Don't use tablets. Way too much food and it will foul the tank. Get flake food that has an algae like spirulina as the 1st ingredient. Most flake food has fish meal as primary food. Don't over feed! If you see anything left in the tank after an hour or so, you've put too much in. Ghost shrimp (at le...

Sick Amanos
I use pure RO water because my conditioned water was killing my other animals like daphnia and triops. Shrimp are far more expensive so I didn't wat to risk it. I suspect there are some metals in my water. I reconstitute the water using a 7.5 pH buffer and Pro Culture. Now that I have quartz/granite...

I stand corrected. These must be paludosus. I just wasn't reading the literature right.

Hydra
Very few things eat hydra. Pull out any animals you want to save and be sure there are no hitch hickers on them. One place I saw said that just raising the temperature to 105 for a few hours will kill them. Sounds like something worth a try. The next step would be to bomb the tank with a chemical th...

amanos & cherries
I have 13 amanos and 11 cherries in a 10 gallon tank. I'm no expert as I've only been doing this a couple of months and have had a disaster already.
I think I've room for many more shrimp in a tank that size.

For paludosus we are taalking about a maximum of 85 eggs per clutch, but only 3 molts to maturity vs. 7-11 for Pugio, so only a few days might be right, I see no specific period for paludosus. Do you have a place I can post this paper? Our Tax Dollars paid for it, so anyone interested should have ri...

ghost shrimp
Palaemonetes pugio eggs can take from 12-60 days to hatch depending on water temperature and other conditions. My understanding is the norm is about 4 weeks. The fry go through their larval stage in as little as 11 days, but more often take a month. They reach reproductive age at around 2 months and...
