Re: MiniShrimps

Here are a couple photos of my tanks. This is my 2.5 gallon. My first tank, it's about 10 months old. It started with ten shrimp, ten trumpet snails, an algae ball and some macro algae. The macro algae in there now is some that I pulled from my crab tank since I had a collapse of macro algae in this...

Re: Marine hermits dying

Found out the crabs like moving water. My tank has no running filter... :x it's also been my experience that they like to be able to climb out of the water from time to time. Every so often a few of mine climb out of the water and sit on the rock near the waterline. One of them climbs all the way t...

Re: MiniShrimps

i use one, but its a 40B without it they seem unhappy, with it i have had nonstop breeding. do you run an undergravel filter? or something with an intake and pre-filter? I moved about ten shrimp of varying size into my 5 gallon that runs a filter (just a little Azoo Mingon 60) mostly for water move...

Re: First Tank

looks to me like it's moving along nicely... If you haven't added some sort of nitrifying bacteria to the mix you could do that to speed things up. I have used API Qiuickstart but think "Dr. Tim's One and Only" works the best. After a couple days you should start to see spots develop on yo...

Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab Tank (Calcinus laevimanus)

I'd love to see some baby crabs! Did you get these guys online or what? Never seen them before but I am intrigued. sorry for the late reply... I did get these guys online. 3 have since died and I now have had five living seemingly healthfully in my 5 gallon tank for about 6 months. Almost all of th...

Re: MiniShrimps

I'll try and throw up a pic soon... Anyone out there have experience with filters in their shrimp tanks? I know you don't need one for a shrimp tank but i was thinking about adding some of my shrimp to my filtered tank but worry about the potential of little shrimplets getting sucked against the int...

Re: MiniShrimps

Just wanted to give everyone an update... Despite the dying off of my macro algae and moss ball in my shrimp tank, I now have several (about 10) small additions to my tank. And yesterday after I thought my trumpet snails had all died one emerged from the substrate and then I saw a tiny little snail ...

Re: MiniShrimps

Baby snails look identical to adult snails, just very tiny. What you saw might be a worm! They are not unusual and can be a sign of overfeeding. Or, it could be a copepod, which is a tiny little crustacean. They can move around with jerky motions. Hmm, it's defintley not a copepod. It was worm like...

Re: Macro Algae turning white

I also wonder about Dissolved Oxygen and CO2 how are these things affecting the Macroalgae? Is there too much of one or the other? My tank with the healthy Macroalgae runs a filter and the water is aerated, the smaller shrimp tank I have has no filter or movement in the water... That can't be it as...

Re: Macro Algae turning white

I have this happening in my shrimp tank too, but not in my crab tank which gets feed frequently due to the needs of the crabs... I've been thinking about this since the post started. I'm wondering if feeding my crab tank has something to do with it. Macro Algae feeds off nitrates. If you only have a...

Re: MiniShrimps

Found another hatching of eggs today. Quickly, I counted about 8 little floaters... I don't know that any of my previous hatchlings made it. I haven't seen any shrimplets in a while... I go down and check the tanks every morning and they don't heat up very much at all from the little bit of sunshine...
