Competition....?

At one point I did not have to worry about this issue but now since I have Red Cherry Shrimp, Sri Lanka Dwarf Shrimp, and Malaya Shrimp the topic of competition now is important to me..... I do not feed my shrimp so each tank has a relatively low population limit....So what I am wondering is does an...

A single ramshorn snail can self fertilize and produce a new healthy colony. I think I was told by Mustafa that Ramshorns cant self fertilize....yeah this is what he said Ramshorns cannot reproduce asexually. They are not like MTS. You need two animals to found a population. Yes, they are hermaphro...

For some reason this tank has always had this probelm... I do water changes about 25% a week....(its a 10 gallon tank)... And it gets around 12 hours of light a day (very rough estimate) ...the light gets turned on when I wake up and turned off when I go to bed.... I have other tanks that operate on...

Yeah you cant really tell from the pictures....but its all over the bottom of the tank weaving itself through the grass.....

I removed a couple clumps of it today that were easy to get at without stirring up the substrate....but I dont want to do anything drastic untill I get my first batch of young

As for the problems with the RCS...it's hard to say what happened. As many water quality problems have a delayed effect, i.e. the problem occurs but the shrimp don't die off right away but start dying even *after* the problem has disappeared, it's hard to say what exactly happened to your shrimp. F...

Hi Bill, It's hard to kill shrimp by "underfeeding" them...actually I've never heard about such a thing. Yeah I was considering starting a topic about this. Or rather a poll of sorts....(but this seems as good a place as any) I never feed my Shrimp(except the ones in my Marbled Cray Tank ...

Well the first and maybe the second inbreeding seemed to improve the color slightly...but I may just be imagining the improvement or just a product of them being in different tanks....After that though there was no noticible change...and perhaps even a lessening of color intensity(hard to say now th...

It really wasnt that much control involved.... Thats how the idea started out I had a really dark red female that was fertilized....I isolated her in a ten gallon tank all alone....once she had her babies I started removing her female offspring untill there was only males left and their mother....th...

Mysterious RCS die-off in the midst of Sri Lanka Dwarf Shrim

I got 5 Sri Lanka Dwarf Shrimp and 5 Malaya Shrimp on Sep 20. I put them in an aged ten gallon tank with several juvenile/baby RCS…. This was one of my more successful tanks that my RCS breed in regularly so in preparation for my new arrivals I had removed all the older RCS… so there was still about...

Ive always wanted to capture some scuds...but the creek near my house doesnt seem to sport them in any great abundance....

I should maybe look to find a way to capture some before it gets too cold around here....

Well I am definitely adding these guys to my wish list!.. They look like beautiful shrimp.... Would it be safe to assume that the larva of these shrimp act similiar to that of the Sri Lanka dwarf shrimp larva in that "the larvae usually do not float around in the water column, but sit on object...
