They are a nice cray but not very rare. These particular crays even come in a form where the body is black with those beautiful red lines. They will do fine in most unheated tanks. I have found them in areas locally where they were in water that was in the low 70 degF range.

Now there is a crayfish I would love to get my hands on. I just recently picked up some Cherax sp. Iran Jaya trying to breed them.

Most North American species prefer temps below 72 degF. Any temps higher than that & they start getting stressed which usually leads to bad molts & early death. It also speeds up the metabolism of the cray decreasing the life expectancy.
