I bet it requires higher water pressures to survive. I bet when the scientists brought it to the surface all its internal organs exploded.

I have one 2.5 inch ghost shrimp in a tank with 40+ red cherry shrimp of all sizes. I have not seen the GS eat any RCS but that does not mean it does not occur. I keep them (all shrimp) well fed so I don't think it happens much.

Define "long time". If it's been 3 weeks and the shrimp are still juveniles they will not produce eggs. Adult female RCS start producing eggs when they are about 3/4 inch long. First they will get a light colored, or tan, "saddle" on their back. This is their ovaries filled with ...

The problem with plant fertilizers is the phosphates tend to build up to dangerous levels and may harm the shrimp. But at the very least the phosphates may encourage some algae.

My cherries are also very tame. When I use a gravel vac to clean their tank they don't run away when it gets near, so sometimes they get sucked up and I have to fish them out of my bucket. So now I have learned to bump them with the gravel vac so they will swim away from it and not get sucked up. I ...

Re: RCS Checkpoints and Misc. Qs from a Newbie Shrimp Keeper

So, I guess after my late night rambling, my questions are: -Are they're any inhabitants that I need to remove? I would remove the snails. They make a lot of waste for their size. Sometimes I think they poop more then they eat, but that would be impossible, right? :) -Am i doing right by the water ...

Chemicals in garlic are also said to have antibacterial properties. I do not have access to Indian almond. Would adding a 1/4 clove of crushed garlic to a 10g tank help? Will it hurt my shrimp? 10g Tank has: 1 ADF, 4 cherry shrimp, 3 ghost shrimp. Some MTS. Tank has a sandy bottom. And yes, my phosp...

As long as the shrimp are shipped in THICK styrofoam boxes they will usually be fine even if they go to or come from hot areas of the country. I guess that's what I meant. Shipping in cardboard boxes will not insulate the shrimp from high/low temperatures. But shipping in styrofoam boxes will. Must...

Isn't AZ gardens located in Arizona? I would not order from a southern state because the shipping trucks do not provide temperature control for packages. Heat builds up in the shipping boxes and cannot escape. So in 90F weather (which it should be in Arizona in May) will build up to 100 or higher in...

My plant weights are strips of grayish metal, easily malleable, and quite dense. Package says "contains lead". What types of plant weights are you thinking of? Some type of coated weights?

Your plant weights usually contain lead, which is a heavy metal and is toxic to inverts.

I have cultured daphnia in a 10g tank, 2.5g tank, and a 2g waste basket (plastic). I think the best shape is a tall, skinny shape (like a trashcan or waste basket) where the airstone will circulate the water from all areas of the container, which will keep the food in the water column for the daphni...

I also have a problem with BGA. I covered the tank for 4 days and it died off (fed fish small amounts every other day only) but it came back 2 weeks later. Another person on another board said it is because there is not enough water movement in my tank. My tank does have cabomba in it and a HOB filt...
