Day 2 of the hatching:

I noticed 12 free floating little larvae.

The mother still has 1 egg attached to her.

Question:

Should I separate the larvae from the main tank ?

What do i feed the Larvaes ??

One Question. I noticed that some of my Opae Shrimps have these dark red spots right on top of their head (between the head and the body). The spots are much darker then all the rest of their body... Are these spots some kind of disease or is it just because they're turning colors ?? Let me know if ...

I also saw the mother with about 8 or so more eggs on her. The larvae are about 1/20th of the adult....I tried t...

Good looking tank Mothi

look likes you're ready..

Ray, I also was suprised when a few snails that hitched a ride with the java moss survived, in-fact they're still doing quite well after a month. I just hope that they don't reproduce outta control or I'll be forced to get rid of 'em.

Just thought that I would add an update for the berried female. The pregnant female seem to be doing fine, it spents most of the time on the ground and not swimming. I noticed that is does have trouble swimming upside down, when trying to get to the top of the tank to feed on the algae powder that I...

The remaining java moss seems...

All of your set up sounds fine, except that your Salinity might be too high, at 1.024 it is full strenght Salt Water, while these shrimps mainly live in Brackish Water (Half Salt, Half Fresh Water), which is around 1.010-1.014. The shrimps will survive in the full strenght salt water, but I'm not su...

Nice set up Chlorophyll.... Your set up was what I had in mind.....a pile of rocks for the shrimps to hide in...but I don't have enough rocks. I can see most of my shrimps out in the open, but they all come out when I feed them....I don't think I have enough algae growth, so I feed them 1 once every...

chlorophyll is right about the filtration...I orginally started with a sponge filter, but has turned that off completely for about 2-3 weeks now, the shrimps seem to be doing ok without any water circulation. (You can read my set up under "Hawaiian Red" Messages Not sure about plants as mo...

I think your 1 gallon can fit up to 50 of those little Hawaiian Shrimps. (I read on that Fukubonsai sight that they had a 1 gallon that started with 14 shrimps and grew to 40-50) so I assume you can get around 50 if you want... I'm no sure if he (Fukubonsai) will sell you only shrimps as they have t...

Status Update

It's been a good 3-4 weeks since I got my Hawaiian Reds. And it looks like all of them are doing fine...I'm assuming there are no death since I can account for 90% of them when I feed. I have set schedule feedings every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with a little more on Mondays. I feed them the gr...
