Re: New tank set up
wait 3 - 4 weeks then put some snails in, id advise a test kit if you want to know whats happening in your tank all the time and know if you need to do any water changes to keep nitrites down etc. be sure to use marine salt and RO/distilled water only and you will be good to go.

Re: Opae ulas passive in new tank! HELP!!!
When you see them digging, the shrimp pick up the sand and roll it around and eat the biofilm off it, mine do this and sometimes pick up sand and swim around with it. If they are ok after a few days i would suggest all is well in your tank.

Re: Opae ulas passive in new tank! HELP!!!
If you have used the correct amount of salt in your new tank, i would just wait it out. They will turn pink again when they get used to the different salinity of water they now live in. you wont need to feed the shrimp as 4 is a small number and there will be plenty of food for them growing in the t...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
Well the 3 snails that didn't kick the bucket are still happy eating away after just under 4 days in my tank. Hope that means all is ok with them health wise. I've noticed though that my Opaeula are obsessed with the snails and constantly clean them and poke at the squishy bit under their shell whic...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
Quick update, 2 out of the 5 snails I bought died within a day but the other 3 are cleaning my tank wall brilliantly, sort of sad to lose some though. Maybe they were stressed before I put them in the tank and the salt was too much for them. I did drip salt water in before hand but this obviously wa...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
I've been experimenting with foods over the last month, I've tried 3 different foods, shrimp King Complete, shrimplab algae and borneowild red ruby. The shrimp King food was ok, it broke up fast and the shrimps ate but didn't really swarm. This may be due to shrimp being able to pick up food that's ...

Re: Keeping snails shells healthy (calcium)
Thanks for your replys, they get delivered on Friday. I purchased 5 and they are small from the seller. They will be going in my 17gallon tank. I want them to remove some stubborn green algae from the glass as wiping over it won't remove it and i don't want to upset the shrimp by scraping up and dow...

Keeping snails shells healthy (calcium)
So I have decided to buy a few nerite snails (clithon Diadema) the thorny type that are yellow and black to live in my Opae Ula tank. I know they can live in fresh or brackish water but what is the best way to acclimatise them and how long should I do this before adding to my tank? I'm worried they ...
