Just a quick update. A couple of days ago this female let her babies go.......for the first day or so they were near impossible to find, so I assumed the worst. But today they seem to be everywhere :D :D They are all over the glass, and seem to love swimming all over the tank. I have never seen shri...

Where these guys live the average lows (air temperature at night time) in the "winter" are about 14-16 degrees Celsius (about 57-61 degrees Fahrenheit). As water does not cool or heat up as quickly as air I'd say that these guys can easily tolerate (and still feel ok) in the 60s Fahrenhei...

My guess would be that because your only giving them supplementary food once a week, they are not yet getting sufficient natural food from the leaf litter. I found that feeding extremely tiny amounts of food two, even three times a day in these surcumstances makes a huge difference to the number of ...

I hope my new filters will be the answer.......they have an outlet that's about 20mm wide. Theory is they can easily wander in and out, and even if they do get stuck its easy to take it apart and free them. I have tried using some old cut up nets over the outlets before, trouble is they are easy to ...

Thanks,

I think I'll give it a couple of days, before I do anything.

It keeps going right up into the sponge..............maybe its found its own little feeding ground away from the competition.

Beware of one piece sponge filters!

Having recently changed all of my filters to sponge filters I thought everything was going great. Until this morning that is. Somehow this shrimp has managed to walk right down to the bottom elbow of my filter. Trouble is the filter is moulded in one piece, subsequently there is no way of recovering...

Nice to hear your putting the shrimps first. :)

Good luck with the babies.

They sound like the ideal shrimp for me too, rock hard water here as well.

Thanks for the comments everyone 8)

I was under the impression that all of the Indian Caridina produced eggs large enough to be raised without a planktonic stage. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll keep you posted on how they develop.

The eggs are small and there are so many. This usually means there will be a larval stage.
I think most of the tiny spots are actually her markings rather than tiny eggs. Here's a better picture, what do you think?

Had a surprise this morning. This female Indian ???? shrimp that was part of the mix is suddenly carrying eggs. http://www.waysideaquatics.co.uk/indian-with-eggs.JPG I hadn't really noticed her before because of her dark colour, and the dark substrate I'm using. Probably an impossible question, but ...
