Mustafa,
You just made the same point that I was trying to make. Not all things can be considered real, or absolute, in this hobby. Any time we try to make all things equal, the other side of the story comes out of nowhere.

Mustafa, There are actually mills out there that are producing a good grade spirulina for aquaculture. That's where mine is coming from. As to date, it's imprinted on the side of the bag. Not ziploc or brown paper, but actually vacuum packed. To generalize that all aquacultured spirulina is the same...

Just to clarify, spirulina is dirt cheap. I pay something like $3 a pound for the tablets after shipping. Unless you're buying bulk trout chow, you're not going to beat that. The powder is a bit cheaper, but very messy to work with. The only viable reason I've found for buying the powder is gutloadi...

Hello, I just got back from grocery shopping, and found something that caught my eye in the lighting aisle that may be of interest here. GE makes a compact flourescent, the type used in incandescent fixtures as energy savers, that is 6700K. These still produce the heat of an incandescent, but have t...

Gammarus
Hello, Instead of buying the fairy shrimp, I decided to buy a bulk of gammarus. I've searched the site, and have only found reference that they are maintained like shrimp. I also searched the internet, and most sites are strictly about flyfishing. A bit of water quality requirement and feeding sugge...

Hello, You're correct with the distributor, and they do claim 80%. However, the only requirement claimed is the food type. I'm quite aware that the odds of a natural habitat being strictly Chlorella is very slim, but there is always the possibility of the nauplii hunting food by chemical cues or sig...

Hello, I make coconut caves for plecos and apistos, and there are drawbacks to using them for shrimp. First, they acidify the water. That can be controlled by water changes, but then you have the fluctuations which the shrimp wouldn't like either. Second, unless you polish them they tend to produce ...

Hello, Just wanted to make a note from personal experience here. I've raised them in 35 gallon stock tanks a time or two when dealing with tetras/barbs that seem to do terribly for me when I don't keep hatchers going. Anyway, when working with small fry like that it's not difficult to stretch a grad...

Hello, I can't tell from the angle of the first 2 photos in this new series. The third is definitely female though. I'm still kinda new at this shrimp thing myself, and learning new stuff daily, so some of the other more experienced members may be able to help with those 2 pics based on something th...

Hello, Since we're now on the topic of foods, I used to feed spirulina tablets to my ancistrus fry tanks. These tablets quickly dissolved and formed a 1 inch circle of pure spirulina powder, the only ingredient, on the bottom of the tank. Most everything eats it, but I'm curious if anyone knows if i...

Hello, From a chemistry viewpoint, what Apisto is saying is accurate. Just like electroplating. The molecular charge of the metal creates a single molecule coating on the metal. However, even though I know this to be a fact, I avoid using any kind of metals in my fishroom because the possibility of ...

I may consider putting the info regarding the methods I use to raise the shrimp. As for the rack, there are several articles out there already that document how to do that. One adaptation to the standard central system that I am implementing is the use of a micron mesh screen molded into the overflo...
