Well I had pretty much the same situation with Cambarellus chapalanus a while ago. There were some lighter and darker blue ones. But the color did not last, it changed back to brown, grey and all shade of color. Similiar things are known from a wide variety of crayfish species, I know several dozens...

Would someone please try to give their blue shufeldtii some better quality food with a sufficient amount of carotinoids? I got some blue shufeldtii, too, but mine turned brown, given correct food. Here is a link to an article that kind of supports my opinion that blue coloration in most crayfish is ...

Geneticists once found that if they breed certain inbred strains of drosophila flies together they will get F1 that is larger than both the parent strains. The reason is unknown. That does work with other critters, too. It is very commonly used for plan...

Feeding is one important point for crayfish behavior. In Germany for example people report clarkii which are very aggressive and eat anything in their tank. Others claim to have very peaceful clarkii that do not even eat the plants in the tank. I think most of the difference between the two groups a...

I do not think it is likely that apple snails eat fish and frogs. Dead ones or almost dead ones maybe. However I have witnessed apple snails eat small ramshorn or physa snails. But once again, these are too slow to get away. A fish is not. There is one other interesting snail, that has been imported...

I like these very much, too. Here is a photo of one of my females. It is really stuffed with eggs. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/zwergkrebszuechter/zebraweibchenriesengelege.jpg BTW, the shrimp that are sold together with the striped ones are of the same species I found out. It is just that...
