That might not be true actually. As far as I know the blues were first bred in Germany, so they are most likely Planorbarius corneus, which is native to Europe. I have heard some reports before that they *might* eat some very fine plants if there isn't enough food for them in the tank. The "re...

I have not yet read scientific articles about them. Can you send me some? Do you have them as pdf. Still I had my reasons to ask. Snails are often imported under a wrong name. Could have been something else. And related species breed with larvea in saline water, does not mean, the actual species doe...

Very nice shrimp. I just have to say that they all look blue to me even if it is a light blue. I really do not understand the 'true blue' term being used. Does it matter if it is a 'hue', if it is light blue, darker blue, if the shrimp looks blue and all of them breed 'blue' like zwergkrebszuechter...

Well I do not know, I never kept them. But there are people in Germany who claim to have bred them. They talk about yellow egg batches on the tank walls. That is why I wanted to know some more details. I asked then potential breeder but got no answer so far. There are nerite snails that can be bred ...

Maybe it is rather because of the tank and your blue snails are hungry all the time? I have never witnessed mine eating plants or mystery snails. vice versa it is the case. Mystery snails eat small ramshorns and ramshorn eggs.

The problems that calcium can cause to soft water fish and invertebrates... There was an article in the Datz some months ago. A scientist said, that the problems calcium cause are not only for osmotic stress, but can cause chaos in the signal pathways of non-adapted critters. So the metabolism goes ...

Sure they can. I breed all of my shrimp in hard and slightly alcaline water. (tap water without changing anything)
There were some starting difficulties with crs and bumblebee etc, but the generations born in my tanks do very well.

Yes they are. :-D

Do you happen to come to Florida in the future? There are great species like Cambarellus schmitti and blacki. I have not seen photos of black yet, but schmitti is awesome.

Co2 from the air will dissolve in destilled water, if it stands around for some time. As HCO3- and H+ ions it will increase conductivity

It is probably not only for conductivity. Calcium is an important second messenger in signaling pathways in the metabolism of any living animal. Calcium ions usually only contribute only a small part to conductivity of most waters.

Sorry, maybe I did not make my point clear. There are like old leaves in a forest, lying there for some weeks or months and slowly decaying. These leaves may be contaminated with above mentioned critters. I would chose fresh and dry brown ones, too. Green ones are usually not that fine, as they can ...

I think you also have those imported blue shrimp that do not breed true in the USA. Mustafa says something like that in his species description.
