Re: My New Dwarf Crays

That is not a cajun dwarf. I've only seen two patterns, and that is mottled and stripped. Here is a stripped mating with a mottled: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c70/badflash/crays/craysex.jpg Here is a mottled female: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c70/badflash/crays/browns.jpg I think you g...

Re: My New Dwarf Crays

Having kept them for several years now, I can say I've never seen a schufeldtii bigger than 1.5". I'm sure she is some other species.

Re: Few pointers on new RCS tank please...

They can't get at an HOB filter at all. Sponge filters like that are used by most of us. They work fine.

Re: Few pointers on new RCS tank please...

Moving the filter to the new tank with a little bios load if the quickest way to cycle it. What kind of filter are you using?

If you have a sponge or HOB filter you can squeeze or rinse of the filter in the new tank. You can add shrimp withing 24 hours that way.

Re: adventure in medium size cray

I'm having trouble with the display of pictures. The info at the right seems to be truncation the pictures to a fixed width. Here is a direct link to an 800 pixel width shot: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c70/badflash/crays/marble1.jpg Here is the pic: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c70/badfl...

Re: adventure in medium size cray

I keep endlers with most of my adult crays. The fish clean up after the crays, as do the red rams and apple snails in with them. They mostly co-exist. The crays get the dead ones and ones too stupid to stay away.

I have to pull berried females out or they eat the babies and pick at the eggs.

Every Marble is exactly the same, except for size. Very easy crays, and pretty too!

Re: adventure in medium size cray

Marble crays are nice. They get to about 3" and are very mild mannered. They get along with each other as they are all clones! They breed very easily too.

Re: feeding cherry red shrimp

This should be done only rarely. They prefer plant based foods. Brine shrimp will foul your water and like majic hydra will appear out of nowhere.

Re: tigger pods

Are you growing them in sea water? These are a saltwater variety, although they can tolerate brackish conditions.

Re: Surfactant

Go to your local LFS and ask for a handull of gravel out of one of their saltwater tanks. That is the easiest way to seed a new salt water aquarium.

Re: Surfactant

No need to be gentle with MTS. I've brough them up to full sea water like this (as taught by Mustafa). 1/3 sea water. Wait until they move around and feed. 2/3 sea water. Wait until they move around and feed. Put them in full sea water. Total transition takes under a week. You can do the same thing ...

Any chance you could get a water sample and see what makes the water blue?

Re: brown leaves for shrimp

Or you have a plastic leaf. :D I feed my shrimp too much as it is a community invert tank. The rate the leaf breaks down has more to do with the bacteria. If your leaves last forever, you don't have the right bacteria, or the leaf has some sort of coating.

Re: RCS Stressed?

Feed them less. Also look for food that is veggie based rather than meat based. These guy just don't need much and you'll kill them with overfeeding. Read the FAQs and the articles.
