A cuttle bone for fish? Put it in the tank you mean? It won't cloud the water? I have one in my tank that has an undergravel filter, and I've never had that problem. If do you use cuttlebone, make sure you get the plain ones, not the flavored ones, remove the metal clip, and rinse it off before you...

FWIW, I think that Shrimpfreek was mistakenly referring to another type of worm parasite of shrimp, which forms small cysts in the tail muscle of infected animals: http://www.bio.georgiasouthern.edu/Bio-home/Pung/pungresearch4.html Luckily, I have never heard of this particular parasite affecting gh...

Info on diseases and parasites of freshwater shrimp?
In a previous thread, Mustafa mentioned something about how some store-bought shrimp can have contagious diseases. Does anybody out there know about the sorts of diseases and parasites that attack freshwater shrimp in the aquarium trade? Because of the aquaculture of Macrobrachium, there has been so...

I caught another one in the act of molting today. It was very similar to the previous one. With a violent sneezing motion, the shrimp literally flew out of its old skin. One moment, there's a bent-over shrimp, and the next, the shrimp has popped an inch forward, and there's an empty exoskeleton wher...

How long it takes a shrimp to molt
Today, for the first time ever, I saw one of my red cherries molt. It was over in less than a second--it looked like the shrimp sneezed itself out of its old skin. Does it usually happen this fast?

I have no experience with magnolia leaves in aquaria. However, I do know that many species of magnolia are native to moist areas of Asia and the Southeastern US, which also have many native species of decapods. In nature, magnolia leaves probably fall into waters containing shrimp and crayfish all t...
