Sick Amanos
Me thinks I over reacted. One died, one turned white & I moved it, and it died. None have since died. Several others turned whitish, then all of a sudden they were back to normal. On closer observation I now see several molts in the tank that are that same whitish color. Looks like these guys ju...

Ghosts
If you keep any sort of fish, like a guppy in with them, any larva will be gone in minutes of hatching. As to telling them apart, I find mine are quite distinctive. Males are much smaller than females, and some are hump-backed some are not. If you have only 5 you'll be able to name them all. Why not...

Ghosts
I've got around 40 ghosts spread over 3 tanks. I've only been keeping them about a month. 3 tanks I have them in by themselves keeping my riccia clean. In another tank I have small guppies and they get along fine. They are much bigger than the guppies and they don't seem to be bothered. Only 3 have ...

Go for the Ghost!
Ghosts are better garbage cleaners, eat more and are hardier. You can get 20 ghosts for the price of one cherry. They will breed too if you have the right stuff in the tank to feed the larva and give them someplace to hide. They eat algae, but it isn't their favorite. Ghosts require no care other th...

amano's and cherries
I think not. Different genus and they two shrimp have a different life cycle. Amano's have a planctonic stage and cherries don't. Amano larva need salt water and cherries would die in it.

sick amanos
After 2 weeks I noticed that 2 of my 15 amanos had an internal whitish look to them rather than the normal clear yellowish green look. They both moved to the far end of the tank behind one of the foam filters and isolated themselves from the group. Tonight I noticed that one of my apple snails was m...

Fish & Shrimp
Anyone have experience with SAE's and young or old shrimp? I understand true SAE's eat more than just algae.

aquariumfish.net
I ordered 15 Amano's from aquariumfish.net. The animals were fine, though a little pricey when shipping is figured in. The customer service leaves a bit to be desired. I got no order confirmation. When I e-mailed to find out what was going on they said they would were planning to ship that day (orde...

Green Water
It is not as easy to grow green water indoors as you might think. I do it on a huge scale to feed my daphnia and some of the shrimp. Green water can just happen, or you can give it some help. There is a place in the UK that sells daphnia eggs in detrius. NetFysh is what they go by. You can google th...

Snails
Trapping is pretty easy. Find something they like to eat, put it inside a small container with a hole big enough for them to get into but too small for the bait to float out of. Put it in a dark corner and come back after a few hours. The container will be packed with snails. Dispose of them as you ...

parasites in my shrimp tank
The worms may be planaria. They have sort of an arrow shaped head and 2 little eyes.
I don't know anything about triagle shaped things. Got a picture, or a more complete description? How do they move?
I handle this stuff by either trapping, finding something that eats them, or living with it.

Glass Shrimp
It would be better if you could post a picture of your shrimp. The term Glass Shrimp is given to many transparent shrimp and are often also called Grass shrimp & Ghost shrimp. Check the "Shrimp Varieties" link at the top of the page for many Caridina shrimp, but I think none of these a...

Ghost Shrimp
These look just like my American Palaemonetes shrimp. If so they have panctonic fry. Make sure there are LOTS of places for the fry to hide and be sure of tiny food for them. Single cell agae, rotifers, and Copepods (cyclops) seem to be the food they need when small. I am also attempting to grow the...

Ghost Shrimp
One more thing. The ghosts co-exist with guppies OK. The shrimp get a littly uppity when I dump some daphnia in. They get a little agressive competing with the guppies for them. The guppies defer as the shrimp are bigger.
