If everything goes well I'll be getting some Orange Mexican Dwarf Crayfish this week. Then I'll be trying my hands at breeding them and if everything goes well, other hobbyists here in North America can start enjoying them, too, in the future. :)

Ok...here's my update. I just saw a berried female in my tank today! I saw her for only about 20 seconds before she disappeared into a crevice again. The eggs were very large and dark brownish in color. She only had about 10-15 of them. So...hopefully that means that I'll be seeing some huge floatin...

Caridina japonica is easy to bread. Look at the page http://www.wirbellose.de This, my friend, is nonsense, or "bloedsinn" in good old German to say the least. I would recommend fully reading the posts first (or using a translator if necessary) before attempting a reply. A shrimp that pro...

Add me to the list of Crayfish owners. I was inspired after your purchase Mustafa and picked up a brown one (sorry to not know the species name) at Petqua. It's fascinating. Ari Hi Ari, Welcome to the club of new crayfish owners. :) I've had crayfish before (Procambarus clarkii, the Red Swamp Crayf...

Hey "S", Keep us up to date on those shrimp. As I said, they might just recover and do just fine. As to the foraging behavior...I have seen sick, milky shrimp forage and act outwardly normal for days and weeks up until the day they just dropped dead (and some still try to pick at stuff as ...

I will actually have some pictures and species descriptions up soon. I will add more and more species one by one as I get them and make enough experiences with them to intelligently talk about them and their requirements. By the way...those "Marbled Crays" (Marmorkrebse) are some very amaz...

Hi Becky, Yes, I have been back for a while, but I have been too busy to post much in the forum. :( I hope your tiger shrimp are healthy enough to actually survive until the young hatch. Survival is always a problematic thing with wild caught animals. Once the young hatch you will see that they are ...

Hi Jane and "jwarper", Your shrimp most likely molt as a response to Iodine as a mild toxin (yes, Iodine in larger amounts is used as a disinfectant!). Shrimp molt for two primary reasons: 1. because they are growing 2. because they are reacting to stress, i.e. adverse conditions/chemicals...

Congrats on your new tigers. However, the one on the pic looks sick/stressed out, so I hope he will survive along with the other tigers you have. The milky coloration you see the picture is a sign of sickness and usually a good indicator that your shrimp is on its way out. Some recover but many die....

Just wait, there will be. :) I, for one, am one. I have a breeding pair of the blue Procambarus alleni. Besides, there wasn't an explosion of forum participants when I put up the shrimp forum for the first time, either.

That shrimp is most likely not a Macrobrachium, but I also doubt that it is an alpheid shrimp. If it comes from the Peruvian Amazon then it would be so far away from the ocean (thousands of miles) that it would make it unlikely that an alpheid shrimp made it all the way up the amazon. On the other h...

The two on the left look similar to a shrimp I received from India once. It was brownish and looked like a green shrimp externally. However, it had tiny eggs compared to the eggs of the green shrimp. Your shrimp might also be stressed out green shrimp...wait and see if they change coloration and tur...
